Should I ditch the 87 300d and get a 95 e300 and drop a turbo 606 in it?
The impulse is strong. Seems like I should be able to get 2500 or so with a manual trans for the 87 w/stock IP/headers.
Facelift cars and the lower cladding don't do anything for me. I like the stripped down look of the early 124's. Pure distilled '80's.
However, the 124 NA 606 has a pump with the good cam and the throttle/cruise linkage would make a 606 turbo swap easier.
Since the redheaded stepchild of my fleet has a 606.96, I've given a 606 swap a lot of hard thought. The 606 swap looks good when you've got a 603 with a 14 head. If you've got a 603 with late prechambers and a good head casting and you're staying under 400hp, the choice is not so clear.
