Hello. I've finally fitted 606 turbo engine to my w463 G Class. It has a bumper mounted inter cooler and custom pipe work. Sounds great but have not driven it yet. I did a few of the manual pump tuning mods but it seems to run really rough at high Rams.. I turned up the fuel slightly on the test bed and adjusted linkeages( lengths as per manual for a 603 engine) torque control and max rpm as per instructions when in a test bed with the idle control module connected it ran fine.. Now in the car if I pull off the idle control it dies.. It.s should idle at 500 rpm an increase to 650 apparently. Question is what happens when it hits max rpm? Does it start running on less cylinders like a 'Rev limiter' ? I don't have a lot of smoke so think I need to adjust the Alda? What should I be aiming for? It has standard elements fitted and ran nicely on the 603 turbo previously fitted its a g350 td. Also the timing is set to approx 13.5-14 degrees instead of the book 14.5 degrees. Starts very easily and returns to idle when revved (approx 850 with idle control connected. Dies when disconnected). Any thoughts of where to start?:Tongue

Anyone? Maybe too many questions. Maybe someone can tell me how to adjust the Alda? It has two large nuts on the base and turns when I rotate it with some force. Is one a locknut? Is this all I need to do get black smoke?

start with the timing. find "the light device" and set it at 18º.
the idle should be +-660rpm.
if u touched the insights of the governor, is better to take it of and set it at a diesel shop.
regards .

The "light device" is called the RIV testing tool. The manual calls for setting the timing to 14.5º +/-1 ADC. 18º is way off.

Ok. Thanks. I set it to 13.5 approx as I had read that it gives good performance up the Rev range. It starts with no problems so I think that part is fine. Also I had to do this (moved pump away from the head) to get clearance for the accelerator linkage on the pump. I could move it a bit towards the engine towards 14.5 as I have space. I think I need to adjust the Alda and max fuel as I set it up out of the car with the red idle controller connected. I have no smoke to speak of at WOT. Do I just turn the whole Alda unit ccw to get smoke?

Should say without the red idle controller connected
