I was thinking a Mazda Miata transmission is small and can handle a lot of power 300+ and the starter is on the right side??? they are cheep and readily available and shift very nice. also you can get a 6 spd for not to much more! and lots of parts are available do to spec Miata

I'm curious if you could make one close enough you could use a mazda fly wheel and clutch and starter? my only big concern is that the starter might not be very powerful and the fly wheel may be to light?
any thoughts thanks Will

Problem is, I don't see a removable bell housing on that trans.

Toyota W58 trans is very close, starter location in the right place, cheap, strong (almost 400 lb ft of capacity), simple adapter plate can be made from boiler plate.

If the starter is located in the right place, maybe these transmissions could be used as well. Have to find out what the input shaft length is and other dimensions like that, bell diameter, etc. These would make for an excellent trans, from what I hear there are few transmissions anywhere that shift better than that unit.

I like dropnosky's rendition of a 5 speed - Franken 5 speed.

If only a 190 5-speed would fall into my lap... Or MUCH better yet a real w123 5 speed....

I finally pulled the 4 speed from the race car, time to start pulling the 5speed I have apart and taking stock of what needs replacing. Hopefully it is just stuff on 1-4....
