I am in the process of changing out my #14 head with a #18. I have discovered that the injector bodies are different. The injectors in my #14 head are brand new (reman). I have an old set of 1993 injectors that have the correct body. Can I simply R&R the bottom part of the body using just the newer version lower body with the entire upper older style Injector?

Your speedy responses are much appreciated.

No. Nozzles need to be changed over and adjusted with a pop tester to correct opening pressure. Injection lines will need some bending too. You'r changing from straight to inclined injection... And don't forget to install new heat shieleds under the injectors!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I did not hear form anyone so I went ahead with the body swap. Started right up but is running real rough. I will crack the lines to try ti find the culprit injector. But in the end your advise to get new injectors is probably what I will do. New heat shields were installed.

Thanks again

Are you describing the prechambers as injector bodies? 603 injectors fit both styles of prechambers with no problems.

Nope. The lower half of the injector body. The early #14 heads injector body had threads higher up to fit that pre chamber. On the later heads the pre chambers are angled and the body has threads at the bottom.

Huh. I never noticed and I've both kinds of injectors laying all over.

You can't mix and match the injector halves and expect a leak-free injector. Once disassembled, the paired halves should also be lapped assure no leaks.

Since the nozzle is the wear item, you could just swap nozzles into the entire oblique injector bodies but the angled prechambers work best with 314 nozzles. Early 603 injectors had another type of nozzle. They'll work fine with the other nozzles, but the 314 does have some improvements.

New injectors have been ordered. Thanks for the info.

I found the suspect injector #3, took it apart, cleaned it and reinstalled it. Ran much smoother but still smokey. The suggested 314 updated injectors are definitely the way to go. They should arrive today.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
