So on the weekend I had a little time to do something and opted to remove the ring gear plate off the OM606 and fit the 240mm Dual mass flywheel I got.
All went well until I discovered that the flywheel does not "seat" nicely.
The protrusion from the crankshaft is longer than the recess on the flywheel.
I can fit the washer from the original torque converter but that would also shift the ring gear further away from the started sprocket.
Anyone come across this?

I remember somebody in the forum coming across the same problem, he just ground it down so the flywheel would fit.

That's odd. My DMF (ex M104) bolted straight up to the 606 no problem. Have you tried a depth gauge on it cos it looks like it should fit from the pics.

thats a bit strange that fly wheel , does not resembles mine at any point

Thanks all, seems it is a know problem. Dunno why I could not find anything while doing the search before.

i wouldnt use the spacer, as the starter gear gets in another position.
best would be to grind dow the flange a few mm...

I agree with the spacer.
My plan is to machine the flywheel slightly to allow the extra flange to go in. My reasoning is it is cleaner and also a flywheel is cheaper than a crank if something goes wrong.

noe that i read your post carefully i understand your problema, but the problem is that u may have to worry with the distance to the clutch bearing. usually the starter gear can acomodate the 3mm of the whasher. the thing is with the clutch bearing.
but that all depend on wich gear box u will use!

He is using a dual mass flywheel with the pilot bearing integrated in it. So it isn't a problem.

Scracth that i figured out that you are talking about the throw out bearing. So the problem remains

I dont see the problem with machining it? The flywheel will be located in the correct position, machining it only adds clearance for the spigot.

Machining the flywheel will allow the flywheel to get closer to the face of the crankshaft.
As other posters said< I could also take away some meat from the crankshaft flange and achieve the same.
Will let you all know how it pans out.

The spigot does not seem to be a problem.
Machining the flywheel will allow the flywheel to get closer to the face of the crankshaft.
