flywheel for om606 + 6speed gearbox
flywheel for om606 + 6speed gearbox
Hi folks,
can somebody please help me whith this problem?
My project was:
MB om606turbo - mechanical pump 7mm - holset hx 40 charger - 6 speed gearbox mb 716.654
I´d like to use a pp/clutch kit from sachs race: rcs 200 (two disc system, 685 nm torque)
In lack of space I needed a single mass flywheel but the tranny shaft of my gearbox is pretty short (as it has to go which a dual mass flywheel stock wise)…
Can you guys help me whith my problem?
I´m sure there are some genius solutions already realized but my research
has no success so far.

Hi man. That problem is quite easy if you choose another clutch. The Sachs 765 PP and a 4-point sinter clutch will take 1000wNm.
However you will have a problem with your dual mass flywheel with that kind of power.
I'm sure I can hook you up with something that works but I need to think a little about it. Everything is doable

The problem is that i strongly tend to this clutch option as it is organic. I think there´s no slip with sinter material: just on or off… - And the car will be driven in city traffic (stop and go)…
685 Nm should be enough as I am aiming at 350 hp or even less
(Most important: the less smoke is best …)
cheers

685Nm and you can have the Sachs 765 PP and a stock clutch that is 240mm like the om605.962 (C250dt). The 765 can easily handle 700Nm with organic clutch.

There are some single mass conversion kits(240 mm) for sprinters cdi (903) , but not sure if the flywheel is bolt on to om606 engine. Also, does the 765 PP bolts on a MB flywheel? and with the MB stock throw out bearing?, cause it's for BMW........

We always use the 765
But as with any custom clutch you have to adjust the throw out bearing to get a clutch that works. But that's basic car building.
The sprinter flywheels fit.
Sachs 765 PP don't bolt up to the Mercedes flywheel, we machine them to fit and then balance them.

Hi folks,
the originally planed solution with a Sachs rcs 200 does not work due to lack of space … -
But I´m pretty sure that the sprinter clutch kit including SMF is the best solution concernig the costs. There´s a kit in the german bay for 299,- € and it bolts right on. I am planning to let somebody work over the SMF to get it pretty much lighter. Just waiting for informations of the costs there …
I consider this as the best solution, if you just don´t go full throttle between the gears.
Thx

(03-07-2015, 04:07 AM)hansdampf Hi folks,
can anybody help me out with information/experience with a light flywheel bolted on om 606 turbo?
Or on any 6-cyl-diesel-engine?
In my eyes the engine is revving easier with a lighter flywheel … - but might not run smooth as a 6 cyl. generally does once the flywheel is too light?
What do you think?
Looking forward to your experiences …
Best regards

Inline 6's are great about vibration, but not the best in torsional vibrations. The dual mass FW was made to eliminate torsional vibrations. The flex discs also absorb torsional vibes.
You may get some more noise out of your trans but no big deal.
(03-09-2015, 10:12 AM)raysorenson Hi raysorsenson,
sounds good so far - what about machining the single mass flywheel to have it lighter? How far can/should I go?
I think it´s got roughly 35 lbs originally - can I go for the half?
Thx

I have no idea. I like heavy flywheels on vehicles with no traction in the 1st 2 gears.
