*URGENT* 606 into C250TD compatibility due to bargain available questions.
Hello all!
As above, I have a rusty E300TD (W210) that will die soon but with a mint om606 inside it. A mint condition C250TD estate (my favourite) with a blown engine (om605) has become available to me for £250.
I need to device in 5 days if I can do the swap by booking a week off work and do it without having to fabricate/buy anything else.
So, questions to those who have 605 experience:
Things I think I know:
722.6 in both cars, direct swap electronically and mechanically, I don't have to seperate engines from gearboxes.
Engine mounts are identical IIRC? so no issues.
Electronic ends of 606 & 605 IP's are idential, plug and play, original C250 Om605 ecu is unaware of number of cylinders/elements in IP.
Glow plug relay no problem, probably plug and play, I can rewire for additional cylinder if I need to.
PAS pump can stay on the car so I don't need to open up the pipework.
Sensors etc all identical of course.
Boost hosing/airbox/coolant & fuel pipes not an issue, can re-do in spare bits of hose if req.
Oil cooler? Does the c250Td have one? (probably) likely re-use cooler and pipe work still fitted to c250 to fit onto my 606.
Possible issues:
Is the manifold vastly different between 605/606? Is the turbo at a different height so downpipe will have to be fabricated? Could cobble togetehr something with my mig..?
Will I have to relocate the c250 radiator forward? I can ditch A/C and my w210 already has elec fan instead of viscous so that can all be swapped over, to save space. Rad brackets are no prob to fabricate.
Any other clearance issues anyone can think of?
The C250 came in 3.2 inline 6 option hence my mulling over this idea for a while..
All input greatly appreciated
H.
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
I'm no expert, but if you have a MIG welder and a week you should be in good shape. If you have the time pull the extra harness and ECU, we can use them on this side of the pond

Assume I don't want to make work for myself, so if almost all parts are interchangeable it is do-able, I dont want to have to weld things. But exhaust is a possilbiity..
Yes I'll be scrapping the shell so anything anybody needs I could post uk/abroad that's fine.
If the project looks possible I'll add some pics.
Thanks, H.
For £250 I would buy it anyway you can break it & wiegh it in for more than that's
I think you've covered everything. There's a video on youtube with a 606 in a w202 which shows the radiator etc.
The manifolds are the same as far as I know, but the KKK on the 300 sits lower and more central on the manifold. Could be a problem with hitting the engine mount. Wouldn't be a big problem if it did.
Yeah manifold and turbo interference is my bight issue but if the 606 turbo manifold clears the engine mount I can't see how 606 hardware would contact things in a w202, assuming engine mounts are identical(ish) between the two.
The 605 turbo seems to have a long flute feeding the inducer putting the CHRA higher up, I thought to clear the chassis leg?
Damn it to be honest I thought there would be more convert people out there.
H.
I stupidly didn't buy it and the auction ended at £300!! Balls!
Anyway I just realised I could have fitted the turbo from the 605 originally in the c250 onto my 606 manifold to get it out the way, at least temporarily until the Holset is ready.
God damn it, thanks all for your input though.
Hario this website might be handy for you & anyone else on the forum really if your after a cheap Merc for parts or are looking for a cheap project theres normally a load of e300td & 250td Merces on they also get some older 190's etc in

As I now have a (working) C250TD I'm in the market for an OM606 complete, as here in the UK they are available for c£300..
Has anybody any experience with compatibility of 605 and 606 EDC pumps? Basically the ECU plugs are the same its just the cable lengths are slightly different. Because I want to plug the 606 EDC IP into my C250 enginebay ECU socket and just drive away.. lol
Lets hope so!
I have OM606 on w202, but mine was C220d with OM604 and 722.4 so I don't know the exact differences of 605 and 606. Turbo fits with no problem and I used 604 airfilter box and 606 pipe from box to turbo. Exhaust was self made, I think it needs to be modifed to fit 605 exhaust. If 605 and 606 have the same 4-bolted engine mounting arms then gearbox bracket will also fit. I made custom mounting bracket for gearbox because OM606 sits 2,5cm backwards than OM604. And ofcourse there are many minor differences like pipe from engine to heating system near oilfilter housing, OM606 don't have little hose to expansion tank, not sure if 605 uses tacho sensor in oil pan and so on.
Mounting arms, OM606 on left and OM604 on right, If OM605 have OM604 arms then gearbox mount, gear lever rod and propshaft should be modifed also.

Greets erx! I saw your 606-202 thread on an Estonian forum (google translate), can I ask why did you not use 606 mounts? Rather than use 604 mounts and modify everything? Or did I misunderstand?
Shit shit shit 605 mounts look like 604 ones..
But my 202/605 comes with 722.6 so I want to mount engine wherever original gearbox is positioned and cut out the front x member to clear rad / intercooler.
Thank you very much for your input, much appreciated!
Also for record information on this subject, the 605 flywheel has 5 tags for rpm sensor and the 606 has 6 tags, so you would have to swap the flywheel from the engine that the ecu is from to get correct tech/running.
Thanks to Dieselmekken for pointing that out.
