300CD
Here is a pic of my '84 300 CD, I picked it up for $500 and it was dirty inside and out with the trans is not working. I cleaned it, changed the oil & filter, charged the battery and it ran great. I traded the chrome 14's off it with the 15's from my SD so now I need to pull the engine and fix a oil leak, I will build my spare engine for later.
Besides the trans problems the cluster was a mess, it was falling apart and had allot of broken parts. I yanked it out to find it was dripping with oil and the bezel was all scratched up, so with some donor parts I rebuilt the cluster with freshly painted indicator needles. This car is in good shape but it has been kept going insted of maintained, I can't wait to see what shape the trans is in.
I like both colors. Either one will look good on a coupe.
Use the tire size calculator to see what size you need and how far off your speedo will be.

I have a rear I'll sell. It has a golf ball sized dent in it. I think it may just be the cover and not the rebar under neath. I'll check tonight.
wow that is sharp (send pics when installed), I saw once on an old 280SL with the mechanical fuel injection the guy had all the fuel injection lines polished, that really made the engine bay look nice.
I like! You definitely should have your intake done up the same way. BTW - how much does something like that cost? I might be interested...
Very nice. Please let us know who did it. Did they remove the firing order or did you ask them to?
I had them remove the firing order to clean it up, this guy that does it put in alot of effort to make it so nice and it cost more than if I said just polish it good. It was $75 but I will tell you one thing, I would not do it for $100 if it were me. Maybe if I ask him for a group package and now that he knows how to do them he will give us a break, I will ask him the next time I see him.
Please do. I am very interested. Also ask about doing the w115 617 N/A manifold, I like to have that done too.
OK I'm back, I have to devide 8,000 H.P. into 5 engines. I have five 32 valve V8's in different stages of build right now and have had to stay away from my Merc but I did see the polisher and he said if I had 5 valve covers to do he would do them for $60 each, just to let you know.
I hope to see daylight in a few weeks, keep up all the great wrench'n.
60 bucks! I am sooo down with that! When can I send one out to you? Of course I better send one now, because we both know it will arrive 6 months from now while it only needs to go 150 miles!
I'm getting parts together to get my pile running so I may do a compression test before I pull the engine and see how solid it is, it needs a new rear main seal so I may pull the head and work on it too. I think I am going to just make this engine solid with a few mods and invest my future time and money in a 606, if I am going to pop for rods and pistons then I need to put in in the engine with the most potiential but I'm sure the 617 with some mods will be cool to drive.
If I had the time or money for a 606 I would do this as well.. You should find a SL in need of an engine (and hood scoop heh).
I will jump in on the valve cover polishing, where does it need to be sent to?
Do you think your guy can polish this? And if so, how much do you think it would be.

And if so, how much do you think it would be.The detail of the fins will not be so good but it still will look great, it would not be more than $100 but let me ask him and maybe he will do it for less. Hey what is that cover off of, will it bolt on my pile? For now with the 617 the stock rearend will be fine but I have a Cobra IRS sitting around that will probably find it's way into the CD, I want to keep the auto in it even if I install a 606 but I may have to adapt.

Thanks for looking into it.
It's a differential cover from a 1979 240D with a 3.69 differential. I'm going to install it in my 2.88 when I do a fluid change. And yes it will fit in your car. You can find these on '70s w107, w115, w116, and w123s.
PN# R 115 351 3208 (interesting thing is the numbers after the "R" are the same for the 1980's non-fin covers found on the 2.88, 3.07, 3.46 and 3.69.)
