turbo conversio camper
Hi All,
I have a 1984 hymer camper on a MB 309D chassis,I am looking to uprate the power for steeper hills on motorways, not really for speed.Has anyone info on transplanting a OM 602 (ex sprinter) into this chassis or any other alternative, bearing in mind that the 617.95x is almost unavailable or costs too much to recondition. Is there a possibility to use hand controled variable boost.
Ps I am in Holland.
I have a L508D myself. The 602 should fit with some work. many have put the 60X's into the W123. Why so hard to get a 617.95x? I can't imagine shipping would be more than $1000.

Brianhymet,
Living the Netherlands myself and having fitted a turbo and intercooler to my 1985 Hymer on MB 309d I am sure you'll be happy using the knowledge I gained.
I have fitted the turbo some 100.000 kms back and it is still running fine.
The OM617 in the 309d with turbo is something very different from the original. Problem with the 309d is you only have space for a turbo underneath the engine, lower than the oil pan. Meaning ........... no oil supply from the engine. I solved that one too!

(03-28-2010, 12:22 PM)Hymermofiel Brianhymet,Greetings, I have a T1 308 with a 2.3 l gasoline engine. The engine is not powerful enough to handle mountains and the weight of the camper. I have a 617910 engine from a 300D car (T1's were never sold in N/A) that I want to install. I would be interested in knowing more about your turbo conversion.
