I have the opportunity to purchase a borgwarner r2s compound system for a good price. The turbos that it uses are the s250 and s360. I dont know much about the system other than it's capable of enough flow for 650bhp+. Id like some opinions on this setup before I commit to purchasing it.

Here is the spec

SPECIFICATION-
  • Genuine BorgWarner R2S twin compound turbo setup.
  • 71mm (50mm inducer) S250 ETT (extended tip technology) compressor wheel on small turbo rated to 550bhp+
  • 89mm (60mm inducer) S360 ETT (extended tip technology) compressor wheel on large turbo rated to 650bhp+
  • 59mm (50mm exducer) 12 blade quick response turbine wheel on small turbo.
  • 76mm (64mm exducer) 12 blade turbine wheel on large turbo.
  • 4bolt turbine inlet flange, and 4.5in (OD) turbine outlet flange.

  • Heavy duty oil cooled cores with 360deg thrust bearings.
  • Small turbo turbine bypass wastegate complete with actuator.

Are there different sizes to R2s? The only thing I see referenced is a 200hp 2.0l diesel.

There's also a 200hp compound on the 4.5l powerstroke.

look more like a compound set up, turbo are very close, what are you going to use it for om606?

Yes om606. And edh that's the one! Still trying to figure out how I can make it fit.

I spoke to borgwarner and they wouldn't give out any info. There's no id tag so I can't find out the exact specs either.

the difference in induzeer size area is only 1,44, more like you find in a "compound" the more sequential turbo set up like the BMW535D uses wider ratio bigger then 2, I do not know your preference in performance but I do not think it will work that good. The area ratio I use is about two even if it is much more complicated then that, but what the heck it can be fun to try, just do not get disapointed

I want it spooling as quickly as possible. I might give it a miss if its not going to work too well. I'm also struggling to work out if it will fit in the space I have available, it can only be placed in one orientation.

Below 3k. 1.5k would be nice. I've seen some R2S graphs showing that it was pushing 2bar MAP at 1400rpm, but it didnt mention what turbos they used.

I think if you saw that on a graph it was probably something with a much narrower power band like a Cummings or powerstroke.

or a jonh deere !!!

--As in referenced to a Vacuum......

This means 1 bar boost pressure, in real-world speak, and what you'll read on boost-gauge...

Not 2 bar boost or 30PSI! (Err, BTW--2 bar is only 27PSI)

well the 2,5 190 is a nice looking and it was nice to drive, my father had one many years ago, with a turbo it would be much better Smile
