Hello. In the next weekend i am planning to ship my rs203 pump to dieselmeken. The pump will go into my w210 dailydriver. The plan is a hx40 super and olefejers custom controller , and the goal is around 400-450 hp. The question is wich pump elements i should choose. Its important that i can reach my goal, but also make it as driveable as possible. Going to use it everyday to work etc. What would you choose?

Thanks,

7.5mm. his latest will move like 170cc i think. that's good for over 400HP. Why not something more modern and performance minded for the turbo rather then the HX40? Even a HE351CW would do better i think.

Sent you a PM. Thanks for answering.
Why not 8mm elements? Will it be too much or something or bad to drive?

I don't think you'll burn all that the 8mm's offer. I could be wrong here, but i think there is some "normal guy driving" reduction using them.

Okay. So it will like overflooding the engine or what? Too much black smoke? Or exactly what could be the problem?

You'll already have black smoke and such with the 7.5. I really think 8mm is for race applications. Its just more then you need..i feel.
Talk to Goran and tell him your exact plans. go from there

I have 7,5mm 180cc pump and it should run up to 600hp so no need for 8mm. Hx40 on dailydriver is not very comfortable, 400hp is nice but it will be only on high revs. I think you may be disappointed because it will ruin comfortable driving, it will spool from 4000rpm. Now when you drive stock setup watch your tacho and decide if you really want hx40 for dailydriver.

Would it be better with a HX35? Would it be enough for 400-450hp with not to high backpreassure? Any more opinions if i should go for 8mm elemnts or not?

Okay this is what they call a "variable" turbo? How does this controller work, and how can i controll it? Where do i get one, and do i need to do any programming to it to make it work? Little more info would be fine.

If you are getting Ole controller it is already set up to control a VNT turbo, have you read his thread or the manual he has for the controller?

Yes, but not so much about other things it can do except from controlling because that was all i needed.

And how will this turbo work? And how much hp will it be possible to gain with one?

They can support enough air for 450 HP on a Cummins 6BT, easily. I would guess that about 400 HP will be doable on a Merc, with the added benefit of much better turbo response & drivability.I have a homebrew controller that we are making better. Adding a display & such. It has drive, boost sensors, RPM & TPS inputs. It also can function as an exhaust brake. It has the same compressor as an HE351CW, but the exhaust can be varied from 3cm to 25 cm. Mine is on the Cummins & will eventually be compounded for about 600 HP.

For a Merc, I would highly suggest Ole Fejer's controller. His can control Garret turbos, too.

Very Nice. But wouldnt a hx40 with a 13cm exhaust chamber be much less hazzle and electronics? I must say i like 100% mechanics alt more. You know it always will work. But maybe a vant turbo will be a lot better for a daily driver like you say. Will i then need anything else than the conttoller? Some more wiring or signals? More components? Will watch some youtube videos on how these work but some personal experience is always good to know Smile

Thanks.

Sorry for going off topic a bit, but when people say there will be smoke with 7.5mm elements, is it possible to get rid of it with proper timing and a high-flow catalytic converter, or will there be smoke no matter what?
If so, what are the largest elements good for a street vehicle that will not smoke during regular driving?

And I actually also plan to use an HX35 or HX40 with a smaller exhaust housing. It may not be perfect, but it is simple. Smile

Want to go for a hx40 myself. Should have 2 bar boost at 3000rpm wich should give me 400 - 450 hp.Maybe not the best but it should work even as a dailydriver

On my 24 valve Cummins, I have 1.5 psi of boost you'd be able to tune out any smoke at all, I would think, with the HE351VE.

with a properly tuned governor(suitable governor) there is no smoke at all,  even with 10mm elements it it was possible to fit them Wink
