Hi, i'm a new diesel mercedes enthusiast on this forum and this is my first thread/post. I currently have a black/darkgrey 92' w201 with the 2.3 8v gasoline engine.
I look forward to buy an OM602 2.5TD engine and upgrade the fuel pump & bigger elements, bigger turbo and add an intercooler. I want to reach about 250-300hp. I will need to get a getrag 5 speed transmission to hold the power reliably.

I will post my further progress here with you guys. Sorry for bad english sometimes, I'm a french Canadian.

Yess the Getrag is pricy but I want a manual transmission and add more power from time to time so I will already have a proper transmission to hold the power. I put my money in the piggy bank and waitSmile

Pics pics pics!

Unfortunately there is no off the shelf flywheel option for the cosworth getrag to OM60x arrangement. Hugh_F on here did it, but he made a flywheel and used a BMW cluth, he's selling his getrag and FW / clutch setup come to think of it..

Installed:

OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
[i]Less rust..

Ohh :/ it's more complicated than I thought, is there a solid(that holds200-250hp reliably) 5 speed transmission that fits directly a OM602?

Yes I want to add pictures so badly but all the pictures I have on my iPhone are too heavy and cannot be uploaded. I have to lower the resolution on my computer but haven't found the time yet.

Yesterday I repaired some rust problem for holding the exhaust on my daily toyota echo(if only I could upload pictures haha) then wash it all with water pressure machine and redo the anti-rust job today I'll do it to my 190e. I'll keep you guys up to date with my STD projectSmile I'll have my OM602 engine in hand sunday, I found a very good deal; 800$(canadian) 183 000km in exepent condition.

When I installed the 717.404 in my 603 car, I used the cossie flywheel and clutch. It worked fine, but a stock 16v clutch isn't enough for a modded diesel.

Kenny, you're talking about the Getrag 717.404 from the 16v cars? It will hold 250hp.

But does it fit directly my om602 engine? And I want about 200-250hp, so is there any other solid 5 speed transmission that fits an om602 beside the pricy Getrag off a 190e 2.3 16v

The 717.450 is the other Getrag dogleg trans but it's a dual mass.

There's been talk on here of a 5 speed or 2 that's stronger than the getrag dog leg, but I have yet to see any big HP builds with any other 5 speed than the getrag 275.

Forget ebay. The 16v transmission kits you see on there cost more than a whole car. Those guys don't care if their auctions stay up for 5 years. It's an ebay bubble. Check on 190rev.

Thanks for the tips, I also checked for 220 cdi's 6speed transmission and I think moneywise it's great.

NEWS: the OM602 engine I intented to buy got sold right before I was ready to buy it.. Sad I'm very sad.. I guess I'll wait amd find a new one or check donor cars. I'll maybe go for an OM605 for the 20v head. I'll keep you guys up to date.

I found out that there was no mercedes with the OM605 engine in north america. Someone proposed me an OM606 for 2500$, it's quite over my budjet & and I feel that the 606 is a bit too heavy for my w201.

So I found an 1992 300D with a turbo OM602 1000$ at 6 hours from my home.

it's a nice OM602 engine with 250 000 km, everything works fine! It shakes a little bit but I may put a stuff in the fuel that cleans the injector and it may stop shaking..

-Does my pump as an electronic governor? The original has been replaced and this one has done only 30 000 km.

Your governor is fully mechanical.

You can ditch the MAF and EGR and that flapper valve in the intake.
