Hi everybody, this is my first post here.

I have read a lot in this from since 2 days. Great info here, thanks for establishing such a forum.

My dad has a W115 / 615 220D bone stock with 4 speed iron body transmission. We are restoring it, as a gearhead I have jumped into turbo aplication. I have a used Audi A4 1.8 K03 Turbo laying on the garage the specs are as follows:

Air Inlet 1.75"
Compressed Air Outlet 2"
Turbine Housing Flange Standard K03
Exhaust Outlet 3-bolt
Cooling Oil and Water Cooled
Working Pressure 6-25 PSI
Compressor Wheel 36 /50mm
Turbine Wheel 40.50 /45 mm
Works for Audi A4, Passat with 1.8T turbo engine

same unit here;
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...%26ps%3D63

air inlet diameter seems small to me but im not an expert on this calculations.
Is this turbo suitable for 615 engine? Or if I install it what should i expect Lag? weak top end perf ? any input will welcome.
thanks.
Burak.

Check out my old car I put a turbo kit on my 1980 240d from a 1974 220d you will most likely need to keep the throttle body on that older style engine though! The biggest issue I have is my turbo is to big to old and has no waste gate on it so boost is late and lower than I want!!! The turbo I want to fab in to this kit is a k03 k04 out of a VW tdi or IHI out of an old subie 1.8

thanks for the reply.
I have read all your post about rajay turbo before I post here. Me and dady watched your you tube videos as well.
My first concern is: if my Audi A4 Turbo is good to go or not. in other words; K03/Audi turbo feeds by 1.8 gas engine ( higher rpm than my diesel but lower on the volume) I guess 2.2diesel can fill the K03, but the intake side inlet is kinda small to me ( compare to upgrade turbos recomended in this forum) I wonder if my 615 engine breathe easily with this narrow air inlet?

Throttle body is another issue, for the M pump fuel supply determines the engine speed , so why do I need the throttle body too? confused here.
I have found little more detailed specs of my turbo:
1.5" Inlet, 2" compressor wheel to intercooler
2.5" Outlet 3 Bolt standard, fit VW, Audi 1.8T Downpipe
Journal Bearing
Internal Wastegate at 12 Psi
200 HP Capable
Compressor Wheel .36 A/R
Ind: 35.70 mm
Exd: 49.10 mm
Trim: 52.8
Turbiner Wheel .87 A/R
Wh Dia: 40.2 mm
Trim: 81.9

Maybe it hepls a bit.

The K03 is too small. By 3800rpm the turbo's compressor efficiency will be below 60%.

The throttle body IS the governor for the pump. There is no link from the accelerator pedal to the injection pump. Like a g@s engine, throttle plate position (venturi vacuum) determines injection quantity.

Running the engine without the throttle body will result in a runaway engine.

Lol Big Grin runaway engine Big Grin I got your point ; thanks for warning.

For the small compressor inlet, is there a chance to swap only compressor side ? or should I swap shaft and pals too?

From what I have read the older injection pump is capable of some tunning but you could swap to a newer pump off a 240d OM616 and eliminate the throttle body as I did I would think the ko3 could support a 615/616 easy it is smaller than the 5cyl by about 20% it depends on how much boost you really want to run they make 65ish hp with out push 10 psi and some fuel and your looking at 100-110 hp but some very usable TQ numbers! I'm looking for a smaller turbo to spool up earlier so I can get max boost by 2500 rpm right now I'm starting boost after 3500 after the car has missed the power band! suck good luck!

A K04 would be a much better match.

That would be good. At 10psi it would be right in the middle of the map where its most efficient.

Thanks for the info.
I have checkd with the turbo shop, we will up grade the compressor side or trade the turbo with bigger one.
