Hello all. My car after start up is pegged at 3 bar.

After about 10 minutes, and only below 1000 rpm, it'll drop down to 2 bar, but just tapping the pedal will make it shoot up to 3 again.

This is causing it to shoot oil out of everywhere. Valve gasket, oil cap, pretty much anywhere that can seep oil is seepin' hardcore.

I was just wondering if there's anything i can do to solve this. could the oil cooler be an issue? or the oil thermostat?

Yeah you can fix your valve cover gasket and oil cap. Oil pressure has nothing to do with those leaks.

Yeah you can fix your valve cover gasket and oil cap. Oil pressure has nothing to do with those leaks.

I have a brand new oil cap and it still leaks.
but thank you for ignoring the major issue of my post, the oil pressure being really high.

Oh sorry I should have explained but that is not your problem and is normal for every MB I have owned and I have owned many....

Clearly you have a restriction somewhere. Try an oil change first and see if that helps.

Again, your oil pressure is normal. If you are blowing out gaskets you need to worry about blow by and not oil pressure. Tell us what car you have so we can help.

Again, your oil pressure is normal. If you are blowing out gaskets you need to worry about blow by and not oil pressure. Tell us what car you have so we can help.

oil has been changed recently. it's an 84 300D turbodiesel.

No problem. My answer was vague. You have good oil pressure and be grateful for that. There are 2 breather tubes on your car. One is right next to the turbo drain and the other one is right on the valve cover.

Your engine has a 7 bar oil pressure regulator, despite the 3 bar gauge. It sounds like your oil pressure is fine, but crankcase pressure is not.

I believe I read that someone on the forum reported hook inn a mechanical gauge up and reported that over 100psi of oil pressure can be seen...
But I've never done it.

My car leaks oil out of the valve cover gasket, and the oil cap. And also have plenty of blow-by. And has a partially blown head gasket. But it's still trucking! It doesn't leak abunch, but enough to make the engine bay a mess

with the engine hot at normal temp the press should never raise above 2 bar in idle if it does it is necessary to plug a gauge(mb part nr 35429177xxx , or any other wich is calibrated) to see the correct press. if it is above 3 bar at idle, clogging in the system can be the cause. ispect oil filter assy first, after main oil gallery. if it still persists, ispection to lub galleries is necessary.
( by me , your press transmitter / gauge may have a problem) .

That is a good point, if your vacuum pump has vacuum leak there will be alot of crank case pressure. I second checking out that system.

You're still dealing with some coldish oil after idling for 10 min.

I have driven my car for 15 years and it has always been pegged at 3bar on cold start and drops down progressively as the oil viscosity decreases with increasing temp. How quickly it does that depends upon the ambient temp and what sort of oil is in the crankcase.

TurboTim is right. Your oil pressure is normal. Your leaks probably have nothing to do with it. There are a million places for oil to leak, which commonly do leak as the rubber is now 25 years old and no one has changed them: turbo drain seal at pan, oil filter housing to crankcase gasket, valve cover. Mine was leaking quite a bit out the side of the head gasket until I replaced the head. The valve cover vent hose can leak. The air cleaner where it drains into the oil return tube. etc.

How much oil do you have to add, and how often?
