Using cluster temperature display to show EGT?
Using cluster temperature display to show EGT?
This is probably a silly idea, but has anyone attempted to convert the W201/W124 external temperature display in the cluster to show EGT's instead?
I am not sure if it could be as simple as relocating the external sensor to the manifold/downpipe (stripped of any non-metal parts, and with proper shielding) or if the sensor would get fried immediately, or if the LCD can even display numbers that high (at least 999 would be nice, even better if the Celsius display is used).
Another option could be to wire a proper EGT sensor into the outside temperature sensor harness, though I am not sure how one would make the circuit board display the sensor readouts correctly.
Finally, I suppose it could also be an option to just get a digital EGT gauge and retrofit it behind the temperature display, but I thought it would be nice to use the factory unit for a stock look.
Thanks for any input or ideas.
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
Figure out what type of thermocouple the stock setup uses (Probably a K type?) and get one rated for your temperature range. The K type I ran on my w123 for EGT was like $12.

So all the thermocouples of the same type will give the same readouts (ideally), thus in theory the Mercedes sensor should be able to convert the signal to the correct temperature as long as the same type is used?
Thanks for the advice, this is all new time.
Guess now I just need to figure out how to identify which type the Mercedes thermocouple is.
Then I can test it by touching the thermocouple on the stove to see if the module can even display numbers that high.

Auber instruments are cheap (~$60) small, have an alarm light, and an alarm output (that can be hooked up to an audible alarm, solenoid to cut fuel, etc.)
