Got my GT22V turbo Today
I have a couple of issues though, It seems to have an issue with the bearings, although I was assured all was fine, thanks to paypal and ebay, that may be easily solved.
The other issue is - it looks sooo small compared to my T3/T4! It almost seems counter intuitive to put it on and repalce my current set up.
Aside from the bearing issue, do you think it is worth the benefit or do I need to go bigger?
I figured out what is wrong
The dumbass packed it loose and good ol' UPS dropped it one too many times and almost completely craked the compressor housing where it mates to the center section. It just pisses me off that people don't care how they ship items. When I ship, I pack the item like I am shipping raw eggs. I have NEVER had an issue with any item I shipped.
I am also considering making it a Hybrid with a T4 compressor Could it work???

I believe the trim on the compressor is 43 and the A/R is .50.

Are you talking about this area?
I got another gt22v with a possibility that it is cracked here also. If indeed you have a crack there, I think then there is a design flaw with these.

I thought about welding it, but there is not a lot of meat there and it has to be machined. I also thought about machining my own.
The good news, I located a place in California that actually mfg's parts for all types of turbos. They have the part, but I have to by buy from a distributor about 40 miles from my house. Surprising inexpensive...$22.00.
As soon as I confirm it is the correct part I will post details so you can order one as well.

I have a good backplate from a 2006 electronic GT2256V. The wheel's inducer diameter is larger but the backplate is the same.

Does this mean they have a parts listing for that turbo?

Thats sounds improbable. Do they make bb upgrades for the journaled t3's?

I talked to my local distributor for about an hour today about different turbo combos and I think we settled on a unit he is going to build for me. It will be a VNt with a TD2501 exhaust housing and a GT2871R compressor housing, yes it is a hybrid and yes I am reckless.
My motivation, let someone tell me it can't be done or shouldn't and I will try it. Ultimately all the calcs I do on paper will never duplicate the real world. I will keep you posted as to progress on this project...
My dad just picked up a GT22V a couple days ago for his car. Supposed to be low milage, removed due to totaled car. I finally got a good look at it and found out the edges of all the blades on the turbine wheel are beat to crap. At least the vanes move smoothly. So, now he's going to a turbo shop in Tacoma to see about a new turbine. Having seen this thread, we're going to see if they can hook up that GT2871 compressor side as well. Seems to me like that would be a great setup. Do you have any updates on this?
71mm might be a bit big for a 22 to drive without high backpressure. 60mm is about as big as I'd go. A GT25V could probably push a 71 with reasonable EMP.
Thanks for the input, FI. I'll pass that on to my dad. I'll let you all know what the turbo shop says.
