Exploded my diff
Exploded my diff
I just put a billet wheel on my HE351VE and the motor really loved it but the diff not so much. I am trying to figure out what diff to go with. I would love more gear but want to know how much it will affect mileage. If it did affect mileage I may even go lower numerically. I have a 722.6 though and I know with my current gearing I can go over 100 mph and I am still below 3k. How hard is it really to find Lsd diff?
I had an hx40 with an aftermarket billet wheel that I just took it out of. I think it was like maybe 150 when I bought it.
I would recommend getting a 2.65-2.82 ratio diff. As far as lsd goes the factory ones are all worn out. And if you get in the 2.65-3.06 ratio you can just get a quaife lsd. And install it in the case. I do not know which diff housing your car has but you may have to swap half axles if you change to the larger diff housing.
As far as I know mine came with a 2.87 or something 2.8. Who sells these diffs that you speak of? I have heard of them but never seen anyone selling them.
The yard sent me a picture of the inside of this carrier and it looks to me like maybe there is clutch disks inside but I am unsure. I attached the pic at bottom but will figure a way to post it later.
Here is the pic

Quaife is out of the UK. They have dealers all over the world. If you have the right housing. The 210mm diff is a qdf5v. I used to have an accnt with the U.S. wholesale dist but I have not done business with them in a long time and they closed it. They retail at around 1500.00 plus install.
The best thing is they do not wear out. The oem one has about 5-10k of street driving and it s toast and then you have an open diff and it needs to be rebuilt. Or about 30-40 min of good hard use.
This is a 126 right? Did they put 185 R&P's in those? I thought they all had big diffs.
The quaife will be a significant upgrade over a perfectly functioning Merc LSD. I wouldn't bother on a w126 though. <hater>

Well I ordered that 2.46 LSD diff and will give it a shot. I only paid $150 for it. So it a 17% lower ratio. My car with the 5 speed auto is already at 80 at 2k now it will be even lower. The 300SE's have a 3.46 ratio and I may try that at some point. That's 20% shorter. I can get those diffs for $90
I got pics just no way to post.
Update....the diff I got was not a 126 diff so I went and got a 3.46 ratio diff out of a 300SE and what a good decision! I am loving it and cant believe how much of a change it is.
