Hi!

I got hold of a Garrett T3 turbo that came from a W140 3.5l OM603. The compressor housing is marked with ".42" - I guess this makes it a .42 trim turbo? Compared to the K24 is seems to have larger turbine and smaler compressor...

T3 - K24

Would this perform well on a stock OM603 3l? My aim is more torque than HP. Long-term aim is FMIC (partly done) and maybe bigger pump elements. But I want to stay below 200HP, in my opinion top-end top-RPM peak-HP is not desirable. I'm more after a wide-spread power band for daily use. Economy & driveability without smoke are my goals.

Though I don't know which would be the better choice of turbo? I quite like the characteristics of the stock Turbo combined with the stock transmission / torque converter. So before I fork out for a new actuator (right now is vacuume actuated), I'd like to hear some opinions or experiences how this T3 performes compared to K24 stock turbo.

Thank you! Smile

.42 is the A/R, which has to do with the nozzle width of the housing in relation to its diameter, not to be confused with trim which is the ratio of inducer to exducer diameter ratios of the wheel.

I did the same thing you are thinking- went from k24 to T3 from a 3.5 w126 (same as yours...). This t3 is the 55 trim. If from a w140, you will need to swap in a new wastegate actuator since that one is vacuum operated. Also, not sure if you have the trap ox manifold or not, but the studs on the w140 t3 55 are m10 and my KKK and w126 t3 55 were m8.

I am happy with the results I got. I have not touched the pump at all yet, just ALDA adjustment and greazzer's ip return spring. I'd say it spools up just as fast / early as the KKK, maybe 100-200 rpm later, but even off boost, the exhaust side is slightly larger so I felt it was making more power before spool.

GSXR used this turbo on his 6mm pump (79cc) and at 22 psi was making 187 or so hp / 250 tq. He also noted that this was close to the limit of that turbo due to high IATs, although he did not have an intercooler which may have helped some. It will probably be fine for your goals if 200 or less hp is your max.

This sounds like the perfect setup for my likings Smile Thank you for your input, much appreciated!

I have allready mounted a intercooler from a W204 CDI which is quite a bit larger than the stock OM606 IC. So I'm not too worried about temperatures. As I said; I don't want to go wild Smile

Thanks!
