Anyone had luck with Holset HE351VE
Anyone had luck with Holset HE351VE
I been running mine for a while, mostly with Ole's controller but now I am trying to run it just with springs but really only been getting about 25psi boost with 25 EGP. I am going to try running an even stiffer spring to keep the vanes even more closed but am not sure what to expect. Maybe this turbo just needs a bigger motor with more exhaust volume to actually work properly. Looking for answers from people with direct experience with this turbo. Thanks
Why do I always go boating into uncharted waters.
Steed is running g one on his 4bt and sells controllers. Basically I believe it is too big for a 3.0l motor. 4btswaps and a guy named Dougal and bush65 are the best people to ask. You will need to know how much fuel you want to burn and be ready to do some basic math, having some idea about volumetric efficiency. But they will tell you how to figure out what pressure ratios and exhaust turbine AR to run, intercooled or not. Maybe go with the he200vg which is available through Cummins here now, unless you just want huge top end. That Ole fejer controller seems very good so I am not sure why you are going to a crappier system?
This should give you a good start. But keep in mind he is using an intercooler for these calcs

Ole Fejer was useing a he351 in his 606 and a Mb G wagen. Because of heavy car he changed to 341
You find info with boostpreasure and rpm in his tread in his Drivetrain tread
Or at : www.ofgear.dk
Do you actually know someone using Ole's controller to run the turbo? He personally told me I was the only one running it on a car. He had only ran it on a bench. He needs to do some more work to work out the bugs, then I may run it again

I must add though his controller is amazing for transmission control. I'm sure he will figure out the CAN stuff sometime. I may actually use it to control a vacuum actuator on that turbo Instead.
No I am not using it. Maybe you need steeds Controller for the turbo.
I've a he351ve in my Lexus with an 8mm pump and om606.
I've built my own arduino controller for vein control and can pull them all the way back to 3cm or exhaust brake.
Haven't dyno'd the car or been driving it much. But I do know they suffer from high exhaust back pressure. So plan on changing the turbine wheel to a 64x70mm from the original 60x70mm
What are you able to get for max boost and back pressure? I am not able to get back pressure higher then boost at this point.
I would say pretty equal. HE has 3psi backpressure at idle with vanes closed so its really ready start moving things but HX is just smaller so it gets going quicker. They are pretty similiar is my experience, though my HX had a billet 40 cold side.
I have HE351VE for sale but shipping is too expensive I guess.
I just put the billet wheel on from my old HX40/35. What a difference! Now I really like my HE351VE!
Bolted it up. He351ve is same as hx40
I should specify the wheel is the same and not the cover...
What you did is not clear to me at all. Sounds like you put an hx40 compressor wheel on an he351ve, but then you say the wheel is the same but the cover is different. So which is it? Or did you change both the wheel and the cover of the compressor housing?
Correct, wheel size is the same but compressor covers mount differently so not the same but can house the same wheel.
I'm making progress on mine but just can't get above 30psi but yes if you wanna keep it simple hx40 is way to go though it will have more lag.
