Here are some pictures from our epic fail at Sears Point a couple weeks ago.  Race, repair, repeat.

Here are some bits we found in the oil pan.
   

Trashed crank bearing and the crank journal.
         

These pistons are scrap
   

Replacement head.  Worked surprisingly well after we cleaned it up.

Shame Sad   Hope u have the budget and time to get it running again soon Blush 

Btw, how did you feel about the flywheel?  Or was it too short of a drive to experience it?

I didn't get much of a chance to drive the car.  I think I might have got 5 laps after we got back on the track Sunday.  I do like the lighter flywheel for racing but not sure I would like it as a daily driver.  I was really surprised how much flywheel wear there was for the small amount of use it has seen.  

We are hoping to have the car back together this weekend.  That is assuming that we get the block, cam and head back from the machine shop this week.  I'm thinking it will probably be the week after.

Highly unlikely that the car was low on water (we can't run coolant on the track).  All that gets checked before the car goes to grid.

The over revving happened when the car was being towed into the pits and the driver attempted to bump start it.  One of many bad decisions made by the driver that day.

do you have a egt probe pre-turbo? i did see you guys were running like 26 psi, on a stock turbo. did you block the wastegate? if so then ill bet it was exhaust pressure causing high EGT's and hence failure. just wondering how the egts were cuz that a lot of pressure, and the EMP can cause high EGTS that'll reak havok on the engine. just theorizing here though.

they sure did use huge turbine housing when they didnt use wastegate's. the t4 on my old 6.9 was 1.00 a/r and turbine wheel is huge. it also had rpm problems with any kinda load, much over 2500 and she start to get hot, and if you held it shed become real unhappy. i did blow the HG on that truck trying to hold 55 up a grade with a 4k car on a 2k trailer.

Our turbo is a Garrett GT2860.  Works really well for us.  As for the EGTs we do have a sensors and the EGTs stay below 1200 degrees Fahrenheit.

I agree with what you are saying about the stock turbos.  We did have high EGTs before we changed our turbo.

sorry my bad, some reason i thought you were still running the stock one. huh wonder what happened? well like you said probably never know.
