manual for om605/om606
manual for om605/om606
hey guys, second post today for my swap
so i already searched the forum, found some valuable info already, but want some combination info, and dos and donts
i already found out the bmw boxes work well with the om60x series, but which one is good or a 400hp engine,
the BMW ZF GS6-53DZ or GS6-37DZ works well, but which one will hold the power constantly.
wont be banging to much on it, but will be doing multiple driftdays a month so needs to be strong
also found out a single mass flywheel from a sprinter, a sachs 765 pressure plate and a 240mm organic clutch plate works well together. (please correct me if im wrong)
i know F.R.A.S. supplies all of the above, but since im quite a distance away i am hoping there is someone who can supply it from Germany for example
and all the parts i mentioned, does it fit just like that, or do i need to machine the flywheel or clutch to make it fit?
Hope for some good reply's
And don't forget the 716.6 which bolts up, just needs custom flywheel etc. 716.654 would be fine for 400hp / 500 odd Nm I would think, check out hansebanger's W124 build

Exactly. I have a 716.649 here at work, which has endured many hours of 400 Electrical Nm .. still alive, although it makes noizes. But that is because of no dampers installed, just metal-to-metal ..

Oh, please, don't understand me wrong. We only use a 716.649 gearbox at our test bench, between two electric motors.. We do not build gearboxes..
I know that 716.216 is much weaker I destroyed one already..

(04-28-2016, 07:13 PM)JVance(04-28-2016, 06:01 AM)decl00ne but i read some posts about the famous glass 3th gear, so bit doubtful about merc manuals. That seems to be isolated to the 717.4xx 5-speeds.
(04-29-2016, 04:05 AM)Evgeniy1987 Ah, ok. We paid 730€ for a refurbished one, in Germany.ok thanks.

so the 716.649 bolts right up to the engine, but you will need a custom flywheel and clutch?

Hi,
im runnin a 716.654 on my 190D OM605 with the "4K-KIT" Sprinter Singlemass Flyweehl Kit.
Bolts right up, no Modifikations needed.
The "Sprinter Conv." Singlemass Flywheel has a extra Bearing the hold an support the short Inputshaft of the 716.6 Transmissions.
Until now the Stock "4k-KIT" holds the Power of my Engine.
For more Power you´ll need the machine the (Heavy !!) Flyweehl to fit a 765 Pressure platte or similar...

This ist the one i used: https://www.motointegrator.de/artikel/23...GwodrOkPSQ

of these 716.6xx , you have the bolt pattern type that fits, and the bolt pattern type that doesn't... that is that round one, and I belive on the strongest type of box..
But of the 716.649 I know for sure that is that "usual" type of pattern:
And, exactly, you need that Srinter-Flywheel and a special set of pressure plate and clutch disk, but I am not sure which, haven't done that research yet.
What I can say is that there were manual boxes with "short" primary shaft, and the "long" primary shaft. And I saw that the primary shaft of 716.216 was longer... because of that, I had to modify the test bench a bit here at work. This means, that the flywheel for a 716.649 box must be THICKER, than if a 716.216 was mounted. Perhaps, that helps.

(04-29-2016, 11:47 AM)decl00ne i love you!!!As I understand ( correct me if I am wrong), there are basicly 2 recent or important bolt patterns: the one I showed before, and this one:
this is the kind of information i need.
so if i get a 716.649 it just fits, no hassle about the boltpattern?

And this "round" one is the one that does not fit OM606 ( and other inline motors ?? )
OM606 bolt pattern is this:

does anyone know what the 716.649 can handle, and how much the 4k-kit can handle?
Tnx
