Viscous Fan coupler testing
Viscous Fan coupler testing
I suspect that perhaps my viscous fan coupler is at fault on my W124 300D. temperature climbs up to 95 on hills and when reving the engine at this temperature the cooling fan does not seem to pump much air. When cold the coupler is fairly stiff and provides reasonable resistance. Are my assumptions correct? Summer is starting here and I don't want to push the envelope on this engine!

The fan is supposed to increase resistance between 90-95*c so it looks like its doing its job. I'd suspect a clogged radiator or the thermostat. Go to a car wash and clean out the radiator from both sides (still in the vehicle) and see if it continues to get warm.
The strip closes at 73*c.
