After seeing a lot of OM606's in boats I had the idea of putting a 6 cylinder CDI into a speedboat.

The CDI will replace a 454 and be bolted directy to either a Bravo 2 mercruiser or a yamaha similair sterndrive. (depending on which of the two boats I have in mind I decide to go)

For the moment I can get a deal on a low KM om613 and out of that comes forth my first question: Is there any reason to take the 648 over the om613, taking into account that the stock map, and maybe injectors and pump, will probably not provide enough power and need to be replaced regardless?

Seccond question is regarding the ecu. I am planning on using the stock ecu but I have heard the horror story's around the tcu (transmission) and abs computer and more of that. What is necisary to deactivate them in the ecu? Since space is temporary not the issue, what is known about having all those modules still attached and tricking the ecu into cooperating?

PM Baldur. I think he is looking into controlling a common rail. If he has success, I'm thinking about using a 648 in my next swap.

Thanks, will do,

I just came from the dealer for MOT, had a front lower suspension arm tore off with the brake test, Still no clue over how it got damaged but, anyway, long story short, I was at the dealer and the mechanic reconed that disabeling the Tcu and abs sensors could be done with the xentry gear, however he was not shure.

He confirmed aswell that in the pure block there was as far as he reconed no difference in the pure block for the om648 or the om613.

Well 648 offers more potential power without changing hardware. Not touched 613 maxes out at some 200kW.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ex: 525tds 130kW, C250TD 160kW, E320CDI 200kW, ML400CDI 230kW, A6 R5TDI 130kW
Now: Q7 V8TDI 240kW, 320d 150kW, 335d 210kW

Soo, I found someone who is capable of flashing the ECU. Also for a reasonable price... Trouble is the translation of the languages at the moment but we are making progress.

Now I can make up the full balance of costs, As soon as the project starts Ill make a post in the project section...

With the right mapper any engine can be swapped. ive swapped edc17 ecu engines into other cars deemed impossible all because of a good ecu tuner.
edc17 is the latest diesel ecu
so anything before it should already have solutions for them

Swapping ECU is possible yes, EDC17 can be made workable with the om613 or om648, what not can be done with a mapper is the removal of the need for the transmision ecu (TCU) and the ABS sensors and some other stuff. What seems to be totaly impossible or a lot of work is the key, which im my oppinion does not matter, good luck stealing my boat without that key ^^.

so yes, when I have the donor car, I need to ship the ECU including the loom and the immo (key and lock) to my contact... Rumour has it that the can of the ecu has to be opened and that they need to be on the pcb doing JTAG programming...

I will have an om648 running on the factory ecu for swaps shortly. It will still have the EIS and keys but nothing else. I will also be able to duplicate this without any problems. Still working on the cost structure and that will depend on the number of keys purchased and if going with an automatic or not.

Details would be greatly appreciated. My OM606 is getting long in the tooth and the OM648 would be a great alternative. I can do all of the EDC work myself.

You can just look at my profile and look at threads started by me. But it is the one in projects about me putting it in my w123 wagon.
