Hi,

What's the theory on tapping the water pump inlet pipe to add a 10mm barbed fitting to go from the expansion tank to the water pump.

Has anyone done anything else to get over this?

Why don't you just put a tee near the small hose connection (beside the main outlet on the lower passenger side of the engine) and run one side to heater return and one side to expansion tank. No tapping required anywhere. Look at my 1997 F150 conversion thread. I was trying to avoid long runs of hose, and my expansion tank is directly above the lower rad to water pump hose, but it could be an option.

There shouldn't be a any longer runs of hose then normal. This eliminates air in the system. Outlet hose from the head to the heater core, out the heater core to the tee, ties the outlet of the tank to the tee and down to the water inlet, by the thermostat. Simple and done deal.

Hi Zeeman,

Apologies, I was mistaken, I thought the return from the heater was at the back of the engine by the head, this is actually the outlet.

The return is beside the water pump, correct? If thats the case then I will just Tee into there.

Your are correct, water always flows to the highest point to eliminate trapped air. Just tee into the return and your good to go.

Your are correct, water always flows to the highest point to eliminate trapped air. Just tee into the return and your good to go.

And if you're not using the stock rad you'll need to add an air bleed from the head/rad back to the header tank..

Installed:
OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.

My original rad that I'm keeping has this from the top of the rad, back to the expansion tank. Thanks for the heads up though Smile
