what basic electrics to run om606 on manual pump
Looking into fitting om606 into a none mercedes chassis.
anyone got idea of what basic wiring om606 needs to run on manual diesel pump.
Not botherd about none essential as dedicated track car
Thanks for reply
Oil temp and water is not to much hassle I would image can wire in aftermarket.
Engine going in e36 bmw which is basic electric also so not to much hassle then
Most of those temp/oil P / dada pick ups are information interchangeable, so basically u can wire them or swap the original´s in your new motor. one way or the other . start is the same as a BMW(i belive u can keep BMW alternator hooked on the mb engine, oterwise u can swap the rear, this for RPM gauge) . stopping a mech pump by key is some brainstorming , wich u can find in this forum how to do it. 606´s are real dificult to fire without glow plugs, so u need a BMW diesel system or a MB glow box controler wich u can rob from any MB chassis.
Nothing dificult, even if the E 36 was diesel u can hook a VE6 in the MB engine using some parts from any other engine... wich is not so easy as it seems but can be done.
BTW for the VE 6 there´s a interesting 12mm head , in case u want to dificult things a bit and keep it electronic.
Good luck
Was looking at keeping the m51 I have in bmw atm but seams there not very strong
Looking for around 350hp @crank and I read a lot of horror stories regarding the m51 hence looking into changing for om606
well as far as i know the only problem with the M51 is the fact of being 2 valve and sometimes the trust bearings fail... the rest is a diesel engine like any other... one thing is true , unless u fit the M51 with a M pump or something similar u´ll never be able to aim at 500HP out of it , or nothing above 60hp cylinder... but that is due to the fact that the best rotor head in the market suited for high speed is 12mm and even with some magic it can go 140cc as compared with M pumps wich some fellas developed 8mil elements able to give 200cc.
i know people working in 14mm heads but for the moment the are not suited for high speed, until then the BMW´s have to wait.
Maybe there is another issue with the pre chamber type BM choosed , but that i can´t say nothing cause they can be tunned too , or they may be swapped by another type chamber.
On the other hand if u want to try a modified pump in your M51, give a PM.
regards
Forget M51.. it is weak. Basically OM603 with shitty designed head. I tuned dozens of them, most just chiptuned to around 130-140kW-10mm head wont do more and they fail when you abuse them even like this. There are idiots around here that use cheapo chinese 12mm low RPM tractor heads and push them to 7000 engine RPM speeds but they were happy to dyno 250PS with propane injection and 4Bars of boost.. Just forget it.
now ,
i´m intrigued , what what could be the weakness in The M51? that a 603 does not have?
Rods , bearings , crank case, head assy, valves , cams, too much heating , what is the problem.... i dont want to start an arguing want to know.
pumps , well they can support a M , like any 6 cylinder , the prechamber i agree , i dont think the hold much, but can be modded ...
Well if you go Mercedes engine with mechanical IP, you will need to make an engine kill wiring loom, I drew this for someone else on the forum, you might find it useful.
All credit to whichever dude it was on this forum who did it first then I copied
Barrotte> Weak head, those 1960´s style prechambers are really bad. Then there is some steel piece lodged in between valves which cracks. Head gaskets fail with little effort. Other than that it is OK, never seen one fail mechanicaly. So If you spend a lot of €€€ on MLS headgasket and ARP studs it will hold until head cracks but I think its just not worth, OM605 will bury that two valve shit any day.
