The M30b34 is great and all but I am more of a turbo diesel guy and I am wanting to do something a little different than the average e28 dood. The idea is to swap a om603 along with a holset hx40 and dieselmeken 7.5mm pump. Anyone have any clue how good it would fit and what problems I could come across in my journey? Obviously this is more of a Mercedes forum but I know some of you guys have e28s. I plan on using a BMW ZF 5 speed. The goal is 400whp with some black smoke.

Nice bump!

If you've already got the car and it's not rusted out then I'd say you're in good shape.
If I'm not mistaken this car should have a Getrag 265 OD (vs 262) and LSD diff which couldn't be better for what you want.
I forsee you needing bellhousing adapter, MB solid flywheel, high performance clutch, custom or certain specific motor mounts, big intercooler, 3" exhaust, performance radiator & water pump and lots of rear tires.
Updates please!
