Looking to see if anyone has done this and their real-world experience?

Rather peppy 240D engine as it only spins an alternator.  EWP with EF only draws less than 200 watts at total, full blast which is not often as car is driven around 98% highway.  Matted to a 4 speed manual tranny.  ALL MB driveline components.

No PS, No MVP, et cet.

Application is W123 Coupe.

First 5 miles of each trip is on roads with posted speed limits 35 MPH.

Next 419 miles is major interstate, I-20, I-95 during times of virtually no traffic or congestion so virtual straight shot doing 70 MPH all the way as the posted speed limits are either 70 or 65 MPH and feel pretty safe not getting a ticket doing 5 over.

Last 1-2 miles is 10-15 MPH.

And, burning WVO with 2-tank system.

Make this trip numerous times per year.

I would set myself on fire before enduring such a soul-sucking ordeal. YMMV ;-)

What about air conditioning? You don't want to sweat it out in that thing!

The 190E LSD carriers can be adapted to a w123 pumpkin with a (5mm?) spacer. There are a few threads here and on PP-I think twalgamuth and OM616 have made them.

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

A/C is iffy BECAUSE I generally start my trip around midnight so it's cool enough at night and I am driving north and there's only around 2 or 3 horrible enough weeks. I leave when the sun sets. So, less than a month for that addition is up-in-the-air. My other beater for when I am home blows an icey 39F and yes, Columbia, S.C. is a screen door to hell when it comes to heat in the summer ...

are you asking if you should put a 2.47 LSD on a 240d?

then no. ive tried a 2.65LSD on a 240d (not the peppiest thou) and i had to downsize wheels a lot to get it driveable.
Swapped to a 3.07 diff instead and are very happy, still could have used a fifth some times, but it still maxes out at about 130km/h "easy" and a lower geared diff would made that lower.
the engine is to weak. with a turbo, perhaps thou.

fourspeed and turbo om617 with 2.65 worked surpricingly well!

w115 240d 72hp 3.07 rearend
w123 om602 turbo 200whp 7.5mm pump fivespeed 3.07 rearend
+ a few more.

My OM616 will be in the ballpark of a OM617 relative to "usable" horsepower: Manual Steering, EWP, no VP, et cet, and manual transmission is the plan with 15" tires. Virtually no parasitic drag on the engine, spinning only the stock alternator. Plus, if I take the plunge with the serp belt, and a clutched alternator, then I am probably maxed out relative to usable HP.

I think I will be around 3,000 RPMs or less doing 70 MPH. 418 of my 425 mile trip is major interstate doing 70+ MPH.
