So what is the better option to swap a super turbo om606 in? I like the newer w124 e300 with the non turbo 606 and figured since it's a 606 it wouldn't be as difficult to swap an om606 turbo engine In but are the rears smaller than the 87? I know the transmission is smaller but I'm doing a manual zf anyway. Should I just go with an 87 to swap? Will everything still line up the same?

Oh ok so it should hold decent power? Is the ratio going to make much of a difference?

Depends on what transmission you’re going to use you need to match the gear ratios for example I have a 5 speed from a 190D in my E300 it matches the 2.87 because the transmission lower ratios it has 4.23 first gear but my engine is stock if you’re going for a super turbo you can run lower ratios

the 87 diff is 185mm rather than 210. You can get a non-asr diff from a 1990-92 500SL which is the larger one at the same 2.65 ratio as the 87. And get the half shafts and rear driveshaft to go with.

I would pick the nicer car in general all around.
