I just started using Chevron Delo for my new 617 turbo.
I hear great things about it from friends who have put many 100's of thousands of miles on their old mercedes.

I was previously using Redline for my MB gasser but I hear the synthetic isn't as good for the diesel or that it's more leak prone.

(I'm using Redline ATF for the transmission)

An old myth that has no truth behind it. Using synthetic will actually reduce leaks because it keeps the seals clean and it doesn't contain any contaminants.

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40. Good to use year-round.

Can we make an "Important Thread" which contains a list of recommended oils/fluids. It seems that this question is repeated weekly.

Its not really an "oh crap" issue. Its just the cheap stuff and the "synthetic" isn't really synthetic.

Amsoil is good, but you're paying for a middleman since they use Mobil's base oil.

I use Mobil1 5W-50 Synthetic oil on my 603, the 617 was specified to use the only synthetic oil that existed i those days.
My 617 I used 10W40 semisynthetic oil of a brand called Q8.

I use the Amsoil 15-40 Marine Diesel, and the Amsoil by pass full flow oil filters. EaBP100 and EA026. along with the MB stock filter.

Iam a prefered customer, and when up in Portland Oregon, I pick up the products I need from the ware house. so no shipping or state sales tax.

I started out with a new engine, broke it in on Delo 400, then shifted it over the the synthetic.

My oil capacity is now 11qts.
