My 606 idles at 15 psig  and normal 2000 rpm is 30 psig. I'm running Shell Rotella T6 5w 40. Should I be concerned and maybe switch to one of the more expensive 5W 50 offerings like Liqui Moly Molygen 5w 50? Ford, Redline, and Mobil One also offer 5w 50 full synthetics. T6 has always given me great service in my TDI's.

All the OM 606 conversions I do seem to run at the same oil pressure as yours. I also use the same oil, never had any problems. What size oil cooler hoses are you using, should be -12 AN.

That does sound on the lower end of spectrum but definitely not a problem. I don’t know what your oil temps and ambient conditions are. Rule of thumb is 1 bar per 1000rpm (idle is only 650) so as long you’ve got 1bar or close to at idle, you’re “within spec”. My go-to oil of choice is 15w-50 Mobil 1 because its cheap, it’s synthetic, and because of the extra zinc and phosphorus for flat tappet cam wear. It’s not a diesel oil per-say but with the soot loading from the big pump, it gets changed regularly. My oil cooler was leaking and bypassed for the time being so even with the extra heat I always see 1.5bar idling hot. 15w-50 is what I use in the aircooled porsche as well with good results. The aircooled nut jobs will pay out the ass for these exotic oils when there’s plenty good stuff out there.

If you’re really having trouble with hot oil pressure and don’t want cold pressure to skyrocket, try liqui-moly 10w-60 for the BMW M-cars. Porsche has actually made their own aircooled-oil line and it is a 10w-60 synthetic as well. Expensive stuff to change out often though...

That's good to hear. I do run big 12an hoses. I'm running a thermostatically controlled oil cooler (don't know what setting I should use) I got from Summit Racing but it's bypassed right now as I had an ac line blow and puncture it. What oil cooler are you using and recommend?

I use the stock oil filter housing thermostat to control the oil flow to the cooler. Finding -12 an oil coolers that are not China crap is slim and they are pricey. I found one called Motamec oil cooler from the UK. on E-bay. Nice cooler and they have various sizes. The seller was very helpful and a great guy.
On my offroad conversions I try to keep the cooler as close to the oil filter housing as possible to avoid long hoses. I fit it on some brackets off the chassis, and use a Spal fan on it which is themperature controlled.
I silver solder -12 an fittings on to the original fittings on the filter housing.
