Anyone with OM604?
Anyone with OM604?
Does anyone fitted an inline pump and turbo in om604 engine?
I'm planning an engine swap from gas to diesel in W202.
I have =) You need the pump sprocket and if you're unlucky you'll need the vacuum pump. Otherwise it's an easy fit. Straight swap so to say.
Good luck mate.

You have a om604 turbo or NA ?
what is your goal ?
The car is not done yet so I have no idea about MPG, but I hope low miles to the gallon Power needs fuel so I hope it will consume as hell =)
All om604 where n/a but mine is equipped with a gt3076r and a 38mm wastegate.
Fuel is supplied via a Holley Red (Chinese clone) carburetor pump.
Using stock injectors, will rebuild them for 150bar though.
I have 1.8l engine in car right now, engine is not in good condition, i was thinking about swap on budget,so my goal is about 150hp/300nm at wheels, not too much, car will be used as daily ride, so reability and mpg is at first place.
What HP are you going for?
Injector pump is from om601 2.3t right?
For me , I think is easier if you just put an om605 turbo without any mods.
You should cut down a om605 manifold and use the stock om605 turbo and just swap the pump elements to some 605/606 6mm and have them tuned in. That will give you the power on a budget.
Yes I'm using the om601 2.3DT pump from a Vito mini-van. Stock 6mm elements in that one, but crappy elements that can be used to nothing. I send my IP to Dieselmeken and had him swap the elements to some nice 8mm ones @ 180cc.
I'm aiming at 400hp, we'll see how it goes.

(05-04-2014, 10:49 AM)kristijan920 400HP? I must say that you really surprised me.
Btw what modifications did you do with engine internal parts?
To be honest, OM604 has 95HP stock, that is really enough for driving, I would love to turbo it if I could . Even 120-130hp would be ok..
Just wondering...
If 2.5L OM605 is rated at 113HP stock, can the 604 produce more than ~105HP without turbo, with high flow exhaust and increasing fuel delivery screw to max possible till it smoke black?
Sorry for too much questions.
Stock internals in this one so far. The rods from 605/606 turbo doesn't fit I'm afraid. But later on I might get some tougher rods and Stg2 camshafts with better valve springs. But I think I'll ditch the 604 then and do a 606 while I'm at it.
I will only bench 400hp (or as much as possible), then I'll go for some nice 300hp on the street. Need some reliability
As I said, a cut down om605 exhaust manifold and the stock turbo for the same car would do the trick with a nicely tuned in 6mm pump. As stock there is a Lucas rotor pump in the 604 and that's just shit. And NO diesel is fun without turbo. With some 6mm elements and a small turbo you will get an easy 150hp witch would be a nice daily driver.

Interesting. I think it will actually. The om601 2.3 is a turbo engine so should have the tougher rods also.
Could be a potent little 4cyl
I doesn't think so.. and why 2.0?
There are OM601 engines in W202 here, never seen w202 with 2.0 604 :/
And yeah, 400hp is very much for stock internals, even 300 I think
to be honest any kind of diesel is better than 1.8 petrol
I have yet to see a single 2.0 OM604 for sale.Anywhere.Wikipedia says that it was sold in Greece,Italy,Portugal,Turkey,Croatia,Macedonia and Hungary. It is an interesting engine because it shares the bore and stroke with the OM605/606 turbo and so pistons and rods are direct fit and they are much stronger than NA version.Off topic but for me the yearly registration of a 2.0 liter engine would be about 160eur and the 2.2 would cost about 380eur.A 98 E300TD would cost 700eur per year to register !!
Aaah,I see your point . Law is different here in cro, difference in reg. price is calculated in engine power, (kw)
And here you can't drive a car which has over 80kw (108hp) if you are younger than 24 btw
If I remember correctly, I think I saw one with 2.0...hmm
Exactly my friends, the 605/606 swap of rods is the main idea for me. But even the 2.3 conversion would work, those rods should also be very tough.
If I can find the time I will buy another om604 and a 2.3 om601 and see how the stuff works.
But the 2.0-liter is more easy

(05-06-2014, 05:03 AM)kristijan920 Hmm, why not buy 605 or 606 if you want power?
I love the om605 so a 2.7-liter build of one of those would be nice to. (like the 2.9-liter crank and stock bore)
But going for power I have my goal set on a +1000hp om606. But we'll see how that goes. Need a big sponsor first. The idea is to have that engine in a w212 saloon. That could be as spectacular as Dahlbäcks Golf
But to get back on track. The om604 is a small relatively light engine that has big potential. And no one builds power in them.

Is 1000hp enough for you ? Yeah, OM604 are good engines, with good potential, only thing I don't like about them is sound of 4-cyl 5-cly and 6-cyl beasts have awesome sound.
I've seen your thread here somewhere about 1000hp project, since everything is possible, I support you and with you best luck if you start building something like that.
Back to my 202.. It seems that there won't be engine swap, but I really mean to build my own STD one day, sleeper style..

Yea, the 5cyl and 6cyl sounds great. The 5cyl sounds best in my opinion
What, you need to do an engine swap, everybody needs a strong diesel.

I agree with 5 cyl!
This W202 is not mine, it's dad's car and it needs a lot of engine work so I meant to swap a diesel, but it is not same thing as W124 or w201 chassis, on older cars engine swap is easy, if I want to swap to diesel in w202 , I need complete electronic wiring and modules from diesel, although 604 engines are pretty cheap, but I would need to buy another W202 then swap everything to this one..
Some day I will have STD, life without diesel is mistake.
Just imagine OM606 with 6 speed manual, 4matic and 600-700 ponies, maybe more, in sleeper 124 chassis
Really depends on what you want to do.If you want a factory like car just sell it and buy another but if you don't it isn't too hard.Ditch the rotary distributor Lucas pump,it's crap and fails often. You would need:
-OM601 injection pump
-Pump sprocket from the om601,it has centrifugal timing advance at high rpm,the lucas distributor pump doesn't have this because timing advance is done internally
-Injector hard lines (ones that go from the pump to the injectors) i think first four from the om605 fit
-Throttle cable and you would need to figure out the linkage
-You might need the vacuum pump from the om601 since the vacuum pump is matched to the pump sprocket
-Glow plug relay and you would need to install a glow plug light in the instrument cluster,i have no idea how to do this.Maybe you would need to install a diesel instrument cluster
No computers necessary. The only problem i can think of this setup is the rpm gauge.I have no idea how to get it to work.
You would lose ASR if you have it
It's like Petar says. It's very easy and the only electronics is the "shut off" relay and glow plugs. If you loosen the vacuum pump you can easily see if the vacuum pump is compatible with the mechanical pump. The front of the pump sprocket on the om604 should look like the pump sprocket from the om601/602/603/605/606 (it looks like a big wave), rest of the sprocket is different...

Electricity is not so much problem for me,i know that I need more parts, but it is simpler and cheaper and better to buy another car with diesel engine and electronic then.. so I quit this project, I don't even have a garage really ..
Maybe some another time
I definitely quited from swap ..
I have watched that videos before, and it's kinda crazy what that small 8V engine can do..
Also, BSR team is making daily turbodiesel ride, and they said to remove prechambers? What about that?
Update: I will answer to my own question:
I found that one mechanic from here fitted turbo from OM603 and OM601 pump, and it's running over 100.000KM with no problems.
It does 40 MPG HW
(05-06-2014, 03:12 PM)Petar That would be too easyHave you ever built that 604 std?
