Hi, I'm soon getting my driver license and for my first car I was looking for a W201 or W124. I was wondering what is the best engine for beginner? I'm looking for something around 300HP (I won't build it to that point instantly after getting it, I want to make it safe and ready for that amount of power). Is OM602 turbo good for 300 or is there a better/cheaper way? Is there anything to look out for? Huh

Thanks! Big Grin

OM602 requires a considerable amount of work to reach 300hp reliably, but the OM606 can do it with nothing but a turbo swap and the 605 can do it with a different turbo + an upgraded injection pump.

I never knew that OM606 can handle 300hp with stock pump. Is HX35 enough for that power?

As I understand it, the stock ECU pump won't put out enough fuel for 300hp. Even if it did, much of the fuel would be delivered late in the combustion cycle (bad).

Stock ECU can probably do it if you tune it, I wouldn't know. Any pump is going to be delivering fuel late if you push it to the limit, it's good sprint power but you wouldn't want to run any pump continuously at its absolute max.
Yes a HX35 is a good match for a stock pump maxed out.

What about mechanical pump with elements from a different OM engine? Is something like that possible?
