I'm thinking of getting something experimental for front seats for the 240D. I've got a good set of seats in that and a 300D I want to resell.
So give me some recommendations. I'm looking for something with a good compromise between sport and everyday livability, the latter of which the stock seats deliver in spades. A neighbor has some welding equipment so adapting shouldn't be difficult.
A set from a Toyota MR2 I know to be light, half decent support but not too deep - this will still be a car called upon for cross country duty and I don't like to shell out for hotel rooms if I can avoid it. Although, if it's something I can find at pick a part for cheap and really cool, well, maybe I'll have to get used to snoozing in the back seat.
If anyone has any LA area sightings on some decent front seats let me know, I've got the tan MB Tex, something that would jibe with that would be great.
The Mitsubishi Galant seats work great for me. Comfortable, supportive, added headroom and only needed modification is to attach the seatbelt.
MR2 Spyder seats. I wouldn't put anything else in there. Wired for seat heaters too.
Comfy, supportive, and most importantly, won't roast your rump in summer.

Yeah, generally the Japs have had the seat thing down for some time. Kind of funny how some marques (CHEVY!!!) can't get this right in their 'driving' cars, but the Japanese have great seats (unless you need to wear your seats, like Recaros) in their cookie cutter compacts.
My neighbor across the street has a welder, so a little work to get them to mate up won't be out of the question. MR2 seats, I've noticed, are the lightest seats I've encountered that isn't a race bucket or aftermarket. My MKII GLI Recaros, on the other hand, were fucking H-E-A-V-Y, and they weren't even the heated leather ones! And no way your old 105 pound girlfriend is going to sleep in one, much less my 6'2" ass! They would be great in a dedicated car, though.
I suppose it all comes down to what's at the yard when I go. I'll see what the 'yota and other Jap yards get for a pair of seats, PAP just doesn't care as long as they get their nickel.
Hoping to find some tan cloth buckets...MR2s didn't come in tan, though!
What about Benz options? 190E seats or the like? Probably the same or more work, though...
The W201 track is narrower and I don't see much benefit other than the 16v buckets. I'd take the comfortable W126 seats long before standard 190 seats. Unfortunately the W126 is just as hard to find with light interior colors!
Figures. Yeah, I'll just have to see what's hanging around when I get around to it. Until then, hell, that's what those grab handles are for - as a few of my passengers have found out!
I will keep my eyes peeled for a Galant...maybe not in that color, but yeah...

I don't have much of a problem with the w123 seats. Not the best I had. The seats from the 1994 Volvo 850 were very comfy for me. Thought about putting a set in the Benz.

Those look nice. I wonder how much they'd be to get recovered in some matching MB Tex. Or some Volvo 240DL cloth, that stuff is bulletproof.
The seats I have are far less deteriorated than most 123 seats I've seen. Might even be swapped in, my odo stopped at 168, and who really knows what that means since it was like that when I got the car.
I've been very satisfied with the comfort level and these are far and away the best buckets to crank back and take a nap in ever in my experience. Whatever I replace them with will lose out in that regard but I want to strike the best balance I can. But like I said, if the right seats are there for the right price, I always have my RidgeRest.
