Thoughts on headers
Thoughts on headers
Would there be some benefits to having free-flowing headers? I know with some of y'alls EGT's, it wouldn't be feasible, but other than that, and the heat soak of the cast iron being far better at doing its job than steel, what do you think? Price of custom parts is no object. I've got people.
Every Fin superturbo I've seen uses a custom made header up to the turbo. At your low boost and using a non-turbo block, the cost would definitely not be worth it.
On the naturally aspirated diesels, the gain would be almost nonexistent since their power is limited by fuel and Mercedes did a decent job designing the stock manifold. A cheap upgrade for the nonturbos would be to use the 3+2 split port manifold of the W115 300D.
So, it would only be worth it for someone running above 10 on a 617.95x block? Need more boost...
I have been thinking about building a set of headers for a OM603 out of sch 40 pipe parts
not unlike these:
obviously smaller size, and with probably stainless 316L instead of 304 for better heat properties.
it would be much heavier then a tubing based header , but in the end more durable
and probably the same heat retention as a thermal wrapped tubing header.
I would cut/machine the header flange out of SS flatbar stock
here is what I did on my OM617 powered boat ( not a header, but post turbo exhaust )
