Mercedes om603.960 info
I just got a mercedes w124 with a 300td engine(603.960) that I plan to tune for more horsepower. Can someone give me some info about what the numbers on my pump means?

How much fuel(horsepower) can this pump deliver?
Here are some photos of the pump
As with everything, how much money do you have? Myna in Finlad has 7mm element for this, with proper fuel, new turbo and decent engine you should get around 400HP.
PES 6M55C320RS180. That means your pump has 5.5mm plungers. The most you can get out of it with that size is 175hp at the crank (around 140hp at the wheels with an automatic transmission).
6mm plungers are used on the turbo OM606 pump but its computer controlled so you would have to get your pump rebuilt with them.
Myna is always the best option since they specialize in performance modification/tuning of MB's pumps. Unfortunately that is around $2500 plus shipping to Finland because of the poor $:€ value. Nobody in the the USA does anything close to what they do.
The 603 should be good for around 400hp with unmodified internals and reliable with 250-300hp.
Thanks for answers and a great forum. I have a few other questions I hope you can answer too.
My engine number is 603 960 12 049 515, what year it the engine?
The cylinder head has a cast number: 03 016 2001 Does that mean year:2001? is it a good head or can it easily get cracked?
one question for Winmutt: What do you mean with "proper fuel"? isn't gas-station pump diesel good enough?

Quote:The cylinder head has a cast number: 03 016 2001#16 means your head has been replaced early in its life. #14 was the original used in 86-87 and #21 is the newest revision. #16 can still crack but its better than what was on there.

Try contacting MBUSA., they may be able to tell you what work has been done on the engine (rebuild etc). was that #14 head a warranty recall?
Thanks again guys.
I can see that I need a bigger turbo(than stock) If I decide to go for a used turbo first to see how it works out, are there any good donor cars(in junkyards) that I can take a turbo from?
What about a turbo that comes from a gasoline engine? I am a welder so to modify the manifold is easy:o)

PS: I live in Norway and there are lots of Diesel Mercedeses here:o) but they are quite expensive and it is very unusual to tune them for more horsepower:o(
