So for those of you who race these beasts, what tires do you use? What's your size, offset, ect? We're thinking of running the Star Specs because they meet the treadwear reqs and are a good tire at a good price. They are awesome on nimble lightweight cars, but are they just mush on the beasts? How much racing do you get out of a set?
Thanks!

in my experience star specs are the heaviest sticky tire(too much rotational mass). whats your tread wear requirement?

ive driven on Potenza re-11's which are fantastic (180 tread wear) and the toyo r1r's are extreemly good(140 tread wear i belive). and both are a lighter tire than the star specs

this is also on my cobalt. not the mercedes. but if you have stripped about 1k lbs out it probably weighs the same as my cobalt does now.

We can't have a tread rating low than 200, so it makes it a little tough to get the really good performance tires.

Not many people "racing" these cars on here, especially on actual race tracks.
Some of our friends from across the pond would probably be able to help more.

As for me, whatever has the most tread at the junkyardWink

I can"t imagine why these aren't the race car of choice. I mean they have engines and you can drive them, what else do you need?!?!? We have 3 Pirelli out of date rotted tires and one Michelin (I think) I'd like something that won't explode and send us into the wall at 90 mph (assuming we ever go that fast)! It's crapcan racing, but I have the best engi-nerd car out there!

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

No way, I'm a car hound and a dork, and have a totally over-engineered and inappropriate race car, so it all seems to fit Smile. Engi-nerd is an awesome term!

And a girl . . . We're a two girl team with 3 guys that race our car with us. It's quite fun. I'll look into the Goodriches and see if they have anything that will work for us.

cool, thanks for the tip! We got a set of Star Specs for the moment, it's what pretty much everyone else runs. The car ended up significantly lighter than we thought, 2762 with the cage!
