How much $$$$ is my W123 worth???
How much $$$$ is my W123 worth???
Thinking about selling my extra W123, a '79 240D with a slushbox and electric windows/sunroof. The engine only has 177,XXX miles, and that is pretty much the only good thing about the car. The body is in rough shape, and it's missing the rear passenger window, and the hood is currently not attached to the car and the grille is kind of smashed a little. Also there is a dent in the driver's door from being in a wreck. My question is how much money can I expect to get for it? Im gonna try to sell it to the Industrial Technology department for an alternative fuel experimentation class (focusing on WVO, gassification, electric, and other hybrids) and am thinking about asking $500. I think this is fair because Im the one who filled out and submitted the applicationg for the grant that got the money to pay for the class lol
It might bring $400 on Craigslist here, so $500 in California sounds about right.
That is pretty well close to scrap value $400-500. Just sell a few pieces off and then scrap the rest for $275-300/tn would get you that price.
$500 is absolutely fair
Larsalan is on the money. Figure out what is selling, or can be stripped to be sold or used down the road, e.g., glass, interior stuff, et cet., and get your 1 1/2 tons worth of metal. My .02 cents worth.

In Cali, these cars are purrrttty cheap.
The most ive ever spent on one is $900, bought one for $700, one for $600 a few for $400..
The most ive ever sold one for was $900, and i sold two 240D's too people off this site for $200 each.
Id say 400-500 is fair.
Thanks guys!! My friend was gonna buy the car to use the motor to power a big ass generator head he was gonna buy but went with smaller ones instead. The car runs fine, its just nothing to look at. I talked to the professor of the alternative fuel class and he said he would be interested in buying it for the class at $500 if I could get more opinions about how much it was worth so he won't be responsible if somebody gets irritated
That scrap price thing is the bitch. I dont have any spare money to spend but..
I always surf around on CL looking at old clunkers and thinking how they could be repowered. But you cant get a dirt cheap body because scrap is so high people might as well have them crushed.
I dunno what anything of mine is worth...
'80 300D VERY clean body .... but its a rolling chassis
'81 300SD rolling chassis, rough all the way around
'85 300D complete, blown head gasket?
Im thinking about putting it on craigslist for $500 OR trade for a running cruiser motorcycle with clean registration (80's vintage virago or something similar), which I would also be willing to pay a little extra for

Yeah I do.
I just want some cash for them if possible. Not really looking to pull anything apart
Coincidentally, I now have a 1979 240D for sale, kinda beat up but the odo only reads 177,XXX and the two times I drove it it ran and shifted fine (its got a slushbox), Im gonna post it on CL for $500 but I'll let it go on here for less if anybody is interested. Pretty much the only reason I dont want it anymore is because its taking up space in the yard and there are back fees on the registration, and I cant really afford to fix it AND drive it, so I can either have the cake and not eat it OR not have the cake and not eat it
I can get pictures to anybody who wants them

FAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am stuck with this stupid car, nobody wants to buy it, and then when they do they end up flaking out. The most promising offer was a guy in southern california that wanted to trade me a gold wedding band for it, but I was gonna have to get triple a to tow it down there so I didn't go through with it. So if anybody is interested in a '79 240 Im lowering the price to $400 lol

Wow I might have to try posting there then, since everybody on craigslist keeps lowballing, even after I lowered the price
ebay classically is where everybody buys ridiculously over inflated priced 123s. Just another option to consider, and of course there are plenty of scammers like all the internet sales sites, but I consider it a worthwhile method because of the much larger potential customer base.
They do whack you for listing, and a final value fee. I haven't listed a car there in a couple years where before it was 40 bucks or something, but I have one for sale at the moment, so I should see what I get charged for an updated completed sale listing and can post back.
Alright awesome thanks!
