Removing Oil Thermostat
Removing Oil Thermostat
I'm considering removing the oil thermostat out of the oil filter housing.
The reason I am considering it is because this is an endurance race car and if it failed not having the oil cooler would be a significant issue.
Has anyone done this before?
Do you want the oil to always flow through the cooler?
I had mine all apart when I modified it for my 201 project. I do not see why the thermostat could not be removed and a part machined up that simulated the thermostat in cooling mode and installed so as far as engine knows the thermostat is still there.

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
Make sure you're monitoring oil temp too

The oil filter housing I removed from an '85 motor to mod for an engine swap didn't work.
The oil not reaching operating temps is also not a good thing. Were it my car, I would monitor oil temps and make repairs as necessary.
Here's a dumb question. The oil without any thermostat should reach at least 180-200 F no matter what. If that assumption is correct, then why would that be bad ?
