om606 + 2.5d NA manual gearbox? CHANGE OF PLANS! read on...
Hey guys can anyone help me out? Im just wondering if my 2.5d NA manual gearbox is man enough to take on an om606? Sorry I dont know the gearbox code.
Also what are my options for a clutch? I doubt the standard clutch will be able to handle the power. I have an om602 flywheel already so would like to avoid unnecessary expense with getting a new flywheel, but if I must then I will get one.
It'll handle it. The clutch won't.
The flywheel and clutch and sized pretty closely together unfortunately, so the next size up clutch disk won't fit. You have to either do custom modifications to the flywheel or get a 240mm flywheel/clutch. Look into the Sprinters, they have the same bolt pattern on their flywheels so they can be a cheaper source. Also whether you gearbox is meant for single or dualmass flywheels matters.
Cheers mate!
What sort of power will this gearbox take?
Im pretty sure its a single mass flywheel. Do you know what diameter it is? (om602 2.5d NA)
I have seen a few performance clutches for the 190d but I have no idea how long they are likely to last or if they are any good?
The ones I have seen say they can take up to 40% more power. An om606 is double the power of my 602!
How will a paddle clutch be for daily driving?

I did originally wanted to use a cosworth gearbox but the only problem is that 5th gear is 1:1. I need something for cruising on the motorway that wont kill my mpg!
Is there a 5 or 6 speed box that will drop in easily?
Could you give me more info about the sprinter flywheel please?
Thanks for the help, much appreciated!
This fits..

I'm running the Cossie Getrag box with dual mass flywheel. It's not happy with steep hill starts giving out a squawk if too much throttle is applied before the clutch is fully home. You could always drop the axle ratio if you did go with the Cossie box. Mine is currently 2.47:1 and works well with the 1.1 top.
The SMF Single MASS Flywheel kit is for a transmission designed originally for the duel mass flywheel. The the pilot bearing is in the flywheel not the crankshaft so the transmission needs the shorter input shaft for it to work. my sprinter clutch kit came with a 9.5 inch clutch disc

Arrgh im even more confused now!
Ok so lets break this down...
From what I understand the 240mm SMF flywheel will fit my om606, correct?
The clutch kit will work with my 2.5d NA 5 speed gearbox?
I get confused after this. Im new to mercs so please bear with me!
What is this pilot bearing you speak of?
Is my gearbox long or short input shaft?
Will this flywheel work in the future when I decide to upgrade to a 6 speed CDi gearbox?
Ok after doing some research for the past week or so, ive come to the conclusion that I may as well ditch the 5 speed and go straight for the 6 speed swap!
Now this cuts out a lot of hassle with the flywheel but opens up a can of worms for everything else lol.
So if I go with a 716.6XX gearbox (not sure which one exactly yet), I can get a single mass flywheel conversion kit for a CDI sprinter. If I understand correctly, this converts the flywheel to single mass and the gearbox still fits!
Ill also be needing a concentric bearing and the shifter assembly.
Now the next decision is do I go with a Valeo kit or something cheaper?

And what needs to be done regarding the propshaft?
Is there anything ive missed?
