Best gearbox for om606, broke the 71740x getrag
Hey there, the 2.3 16 isch getrag gerbox failed me...
looking at the BMW gearboxes, ZF and getrag, i was told that the 525+530tdi gearboxes was durable, but also that the sixspeed was even stronger.
have found a sixspeed gearbox belonging to bmw m5 etc, an S6S 420g, getrag gearbox
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getrag_420G_transmission
any input on durability on those? what is the best to choose from? its a tad more expensive than the fivespeeds, but 0.83 on sixth gear and perhaps better durability doesnt sound that bad.
Sorry for not being any help, but what happened to your gearbox? How much torque are you making and what kind of clutch? Those gear boxes have been called "indestructible".
Did you see my ongoing thread about GS6-53DZ adapter to OM606? http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thre...06-Adapter
This is the current ZF 6-speed manual fitted to many post 2008-ish BMWs including E46. It is readily available here in the UK from breakers, but not as cheap as older E46 gearboxes (which have different bellhousing pattern).
It is reported to be very strong indeed. The older 5 speed ZF version (GS5-39) is rated fro 390Nm, but people have run over 1000Nm I think. The GS6-53 is rated to 530Nm, but should be good for ++>1000Nm
Adapter plate looks possible, but custom flywheel is essential and if you make enough Nm then probably racing clutch too. I am designing for 7.25" Tilton 2 Plate cerametallic and will shortly (next few weeks) have CAD drawings for adapter plate and flywheel for this clutch which I will publish here.
yeah, saw that thread, the gearbox that i am thinking of buying, that i might get cheep with a whole car is the getrag S6S 420G gearbox, dont know if yours is stronger? rated at 530nm instad of my 420 (490nm) i presume.
anyway, did a tad of racing, track, and excessive boost (perhaps combined with quick shifting) sent the third gear to hell and back,
the engine is a om606, 8mm mynä pump, super hx40, sinterclutch, bmw pressure plate and what might have been the death, a 2.47 rearend.
had a 3.69 earlier, but felt kind of bad to rev out max at 200km/h, and the 2.47 was the only one i had laying around, problem with shipping from US.
the car was dynoed at around 530whp i think, dont know the torque
(but wouldnt that 2.47 be awsome? 350km/h in theoretical top speed )
