Hope you enjoyed the pump episode and learned a lot about tuning pumps.

Herlevi looks like a fun guy. But as you implies the episode was not that informative. Sounded to me like anyone could get 270cc from 8mm elements in your home garage. And I know for a fact that you need a little bit more than that...
But the guys are doing a great job with the videos.

One can dream can't they?
I only have one concern with their racing engine, if this is a 3.5 crank, it will break. The 3.5's were notorious for this..
I may be wrong here, but i thought the 3.5 crank was tough. AMG used it to make the M104 3.6 engine after all.

AMG used it to make the M104 3.6 engine after all.The only issues I was aware of with the 3.5 was the rod bending issue & the issue of the catylitic conver being in the manifold & having a habit of disintergrating into the turbo.

(03-19-2014, 10:20 PM)Gearbound How will they put DI injectors into a ID head? Sounds like they havent found a answer to the pistions either.

As they can lower CR (=it's a race car), they might be able to reprofile combustion chamber in the piston to go with the nozzle angle of their choice. I think the biggest problem is that DI engine needs swirl and tumble in the compression chamber in order to have efficient burning. Tumble is easy to achieve with piston mods, but to get any decent swirl motion...
Hopefully air movement in combustion chamber is caotic enough with high revs and high boost. With VW TDI engines we have found best to enhance swirl at the cost of intake flow.

That´s easy. Remove the nozzle holder and prechamber and in that space you can basically place a KBAL65S13 nozzle holder for example.
The hard part will be to find the right nozzle. A nozzle with a not correct spray angle will cut the piston like a water jet cutter....

Plug it up. Good D engine will start without glowing... It's not like it's going to be used to get fresh brezels every morning...
They are trying to convert engine to direct injection. In direct injection combustion chamber is
contained in piston top which is dished.
(04-02-2014, 05:45 PM)anjay They are trying to convert engine to direct injection. In direct injection combustion chamber isThat doesn't explain why you'd use sprinter pistons instead of CDI pistons(which are direct injection anyway), But Volker above you has already covered that.

Maybe Sprinter (did they say what Sprinter? CDI oder DI??) pistons are simply stronger due to higher engine load for - er - load hauling Also I don't thing they'r going CDI and as Volker allready explained, piston geometrie is quite important with direct injection. So taking pistons out of a 290 engine is probably the best idea if you go for mechanical DI.
Just my thoughts on a subject I don't know much about So I stand corrected of course...

No modifications to fit xD
My family has Finnish heritage (came over from Kuortane a few generations back), and these guys seem pretty awesome, so I thought I'd help 'em finance some new tires and ordered a bunch of stickers. I'm not too proud to admit that I was like a little fan-boy when they arrived in an envelope that apparently Teemu had hand written on.
Lol I'm pathetic. This is a cool project, though!
Thats from their 203 wagon. Seems like a reasonable approach to lowering EGP . I have a similar feature with a loose vband on the stock exhaust....
Vanes sheared off...
They've also destroyed the first engine this season. New one is in a the race is on https://www.facebook.com/blacksmokeracin...nt_count=1
Report from me.
I Heard on all the videos that the Engine didnt sound good, so when BSR was in Denmark I sent a message to Teemu asking if they need any help from me? Answer was quickly replyed and Wednesday the team arrived for a pumpswap, It worked like hell, see video, After that up to Mantorp Park for Friday race, engine overfuelled and I never had a chance to reduce it Before it blow up.
This was the second piston on cyl2 that have melted down in the same block, probably cause oilcooling from underside.
When Engine was swapped and my pump did go back, they accidently cracked the pumphouse with a massive oil leak as result.
We tested the faulty pump on Wednesday night, governor was not OK an 1 cyl did give to much fuel. It maxed out 150cc on 5 cyl and 190 on 1 cyl, I adjusted the fuel but nothing else, pump should go back to Finland for fixing. Max fuel was 220cc at full rack travel
To save Everything, I took the old pump, took my governor & ALDA and put it on, set the pump on the Engine without any covers, started up an listend to it, adjusted some and got it running. I reduced it on the outside adjuster that I have to save the new Engine. It did go well and Teemu came in 3 rd Place in drifting competition.
Thats racing folks.
