Hello posted a while back about wanting to put a om662 la in a w201 190 after doing some more research it seems not many have done this so I've thought about the om605 engine & a w202 manual as there easier to get hold of in the uk . As 190 manual diesels are very sought after & are getting a lot harder to find .

So in a stock w202 manual if I wanted to make around 200-250 bhp what would I need for the following

1) injector pump om602 ? Turbo or non turbo ?
2) what size pump elements & does anyone in the uk do good pump work ?
3 what make & size turbo charger ?
4 ) where can I source a manifold for the 605 engine ?

Holset HX30W 44mm inducer (ported shroud housing) = 33-34lbs/min ~230-240bhp on an OM605
Holset HE221W = 37.8lbs/min, ~260bhp on an OM605
Holset HX30W Super 46mm inducer = 38-39lbs/min, 260-270bhp

HX30W turbos are T3 flanged, HE221W has a T25 flange

The w202 came in a 5cyl version. The C270CDI, find one of those manual and you have the strongest gearbox in a Mercedes ever. And a stroker crank for your 605 to be used with om604 pistons to make an IDI 2.7-liter 5cyl SuperTurboDiesel.

1) injector pump om602 ? Turbo or non turbo ?
Ask the pump builder, he will guide you in the right direction. But as hig RS.number as possible is the way to go.

2) what size pump elements & does anyone in the uk do good pump work?
8mm and Dieselmeken in Sweden is the go to guy.

3 what make & size turbo charger ?
Precision 5554 is a nice one.

4 ) where can I source a manifold for the 605 engine ?

The w202 came in a 5cyl version. The C270CDI, find one of those manual and you have the strongest gearbox in a Mercedes ever. And a stroker crank for your 605 to be used with om604 pistons to make an IDI 2.7-liter 5cyl SuperTurboDiesel.

It's 6spd. Will search for the number, have it someplace Tongue Actually reinstalled my computer and lost my saved links Sad But it's the 6spd that ends on 66 I believe.

605 internals are super tough (the turbo version), but my post was just a quick 2.7-liter fix that requires less work than buying a other w202 than the 270cdi.

You set the smoke on the outside ALDA the IP-builder will fit on your IP. So smoke is no problem.

It's 6spd. Will search for the number, have it someplace Tongue Actually reinstalled my computer and lost my saved links Sad But it's the 6spd that ends on 66 I believe.

8mm elements for 200-300hp? Considering the rude part-throttle behaviour compared to stock 6mm or 7mm Mynä-pump...

If you want 250hp, change the turbo and go for reprogramming. If you want 300hp (or 400), then a built pump is needed, as well as bigger IC (although it wouldn't hurt in 250hp case either).

As I mentioned, 250hp is possible with turbo OM605 stock 6mm elements, but 7mm is preferable as injection duration becomes shorter --> less smoke and heat, better economy. If you're upping the power above 350hp level in the future, then you should consider 8mm.

Stock exhaust manifold is for sure good for 350hp, but you'd get better spoolup with a proper manifold. Adapter flange + stock manifold will be a tight fit as W202 engine bay isn't what one would call roomy.

I think 7mm pump may be the best route as I don't intend to run over 250 bhp really I have been out & had a good look at the engine bay tonight & you are right it does look rather snugg in there even with stock turbo & manifold so I think the best way to go will be aftermarket exhaust manifold

There are lots of HX35's on ebay, they usually sell for £3-400.

For the power you are aiming for don't buy a manifold get an adapter made up like in Mantaheads thread 'C250 200hp 6mm elements', This moves the turbo in and forwards to fit in the w202 engine bay, then only the stock DP needs to be lengthened to mate to it.

This is what I am doing right now




Installed:

OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
