turbo diesel ford crown victoria
turbo diesel ford crown victoria
i would like to implant a diesel into a late model ford crown victoria police car. i think the cummins is too heavy and loud. what other engine would be a good choice? i want to hot rod the engine for performance. i want it to really scream.
i thought about a 5 cylinder mercedes. i am not sure which mercedes engine is the best choice. anyone know the best of the best implantable mercedes diesel? what year and model of mercedes would i find it from? where could i find one? what performance upgrades could i do?
i want the performance to be wayyy better than the stock 4.6 gas engine in the crown vic.
the transmission in a ford crown vic police car is a 4r70w. bauman engineering makes a stand alone controller for the transmission. but how can i mate the mercedes to the tranny? is it possible to take the motor and a tranny to a machine shop and have an adapter made at a reasonable price? what should i do?
any other hot rod diesel engine choices out there?
i also want the engine to not be too..too heavy like the cummins is. and it has to be within the realm of affordability also. and the quieter the better.
how loud are mercedes diesel 5 cylinders compared to other engines?
i would possibly consider a jap diesel if its possible to have parts availability and performance upgrades etc....
the reason for choosing a ford crown vic is because...i want an affordable body and chassis. the ford crown vic is a full frame car. it handles well. suspension upgrades are available. its stealthy and looks like a sleeper. and if i am driving my hot rod at a fast pace...i wanna at least attempt to fool a cop that i meet that maybe my car is a cop car also. etc... plus..crown vics are plentiful. and if i make a good package out of the diesel crown vic combo...i can sell a few to a friend who has a taxi service. he can run biodiesel..or WVO.
ok...please give me some advice here! thanks!
JABERWOCKY i want the performance to be wayyy better than the stock 4.6 gas engine in the crown vic. Then any of Mercedes diesels before 1998 is not a good choice.
Quote:i also want the engine to not be too..too heavy like the cummins is.The cummins is not very heavy, if this guy can put it into an E class then a crown vic should be no problem.
Quote:how loud are mercedes diesel 5 cylinders compared to other engines? That won't matter, the 617 won't meet your power demands.

omg! That cummins powered mercedes looks badass! Any links pics or more info on that car? I have seen a cummins powered monte carlo on Youtube. But not a Benz. I would appreciate any info or links to modified cars like that!
I wonder if a late model crown vic will fit a cummins 6 cylinder? Might affect the handling with the weight?
So if I installed a hot rodded mercedes diesel into a crown vic....could I at least get performance equal to that of the stock 4.6 engine? If I could at least equal the performance but have better fuel economy and choice of WVO I'd be happy. What is the swappable mercedes engine of choice?
The cummins although badass, is quite heavy at around 1100 lbs and very tall, I wouls suspect that the crossmember in the late benz had to be modified. Also the cummins is quite spendy. where as a properly prepped 6.5 chevy diesel with all marine mechanical injection, main girdle and ARP head studs will make 300 very reliable HP and about 600 FTlbs of torque. These engine use small block chevy engine mounts and bell housing pattern, making them a great choice for swaps. You can find them around for cheap and even convert the later electronic FI type to mechanical type FI. I'm doing a swap in a 67 chevy truck now with a friend and this motor is a beast. There are after market cooling setups available for them as well as fluid dampers and other parts. Military surplus is a good place to look.
hey man. i appreciate your advice. i really dont enjoy the 6.5 gm diesels. it would work...but i just despise those engines because i have had so many work trucks with those engines and ended up selling them..trading them..or just putting gas motors back in.
in a car...it might be fine if the glitches were fixed. but if i was gonna do that..i might as well make it easy and put it in a chevy caprice cop car since it would bolt right in.
instead of trying to adapt to the ford 4r70w transmission(which might be difficult)...what if i just transplanted a complete engine and transmission from a mercedes donot car. i am just a little scared that when i start modifying the engine..making horsepower..the stock mercedes tranny wont be able to handle it and its gonna cost me alot of money to modify and rebuild the mercedes transmission. would it?
if i could at least just get equal power from the 5 cylinder engine as the stock 4.6 comes with in the car. the mpg would be the thing i would be gaining. but also..when those cop cars age...there is smog equipment that goes bad...and if u bypass the smog equipment...then the computer starts messing up....and i just hate spending all that money on that junk.
a mechanical diesel engine would be awesome for this car!
i guess i could always go with a cummins 4bt. but they are soo loud!
It will probably cost you more money to make a mercedes 5cyl (or 6cyl) powerful enough to meet your requirements than it will to make a 6.5 or a 4bt work. Just a wild ass guess but it seems like the $3-4k you would spend upgrading the injection system, and acquiring an engine, would get you a long ways on a cummins install.
there is no way that guy got that cummins into that W210 car without MAJOR crossmember
surgery, in fact he probably has to run a dry sump oil pan to keep it off the ground..
I have one of these engines in my Dodge Dually truck (mercedes parts hauler)
and greaseking is right... VERY tall
forced,
do you have any more info on that car ?
does it actually run, or was it just dropped in there as a photo op ?
( still has the chain on it )
These photos are all the information I have on it.
wow... just wow..
I thought I did some crazy stuff..
that will be one nose heavy car..
the ISB/6BT is about 960 lbs
even the 4BT is 745 lbs..
we gotta find out who this person us installing the cummins in the benz. I wanna see the results. I wonder how quiet the newest year model cummins diesel can be made? I hate the loudness. If there was a way to quiet the cummins down....I would put it in a crown vic. That is....if it will fit?
the latest version is the 6.7 I think..
anyway its a CRD and is very quiet, but is even larger then the ISB
and still quite heavy..
Actually the 6.7 is roughly the same size physically as the 5.9. What makes it look larger is all the smog crap they put all over it. What a waste of time IMO. I think the 2003 to 2007 cummins was very dialed, good power, great fuel economy. They went and screwed that motor up again. Also the 4bt, although it is 2 holes smaller than a 6bt is the same ht. and presents the same challenges as the 6bt with respect to mounting. You're better off with a 7.3 powerstroke, and you can keep it all Ford.
yeah.. I would think a powerstroke would almost bolt right in there
probably get a V8 cop-car driveshaft and your done..
definitely get the 7.3 though.. the 6.0 PSD is junk
The early 6.0 is but not the later. If you want real POWER, a 7.3 is junk.
