603 - 606 Oil Pump

I am looking at a 603 oil pump and the oil hole from the block in the pump is square and looks like it uses a gasket or no gasket at all.
The 606 pump has a round oil hole that is recessed with a oring that matches the round oil hole in the block.
Am I missing something or am I looking at the wrong 603 oil pump?
I understand that a 603 oil pump can be used on a 606 if you need more oil pan clearence.
