Exhaust header/manifold building question
Exhaust header/manifold building question
How about cutting the head flange off of one of those $160 Chinese Racing inline 6 polished stainless headers and welding on a mercedes flange? Crazy?
I realize that a bore spacing adjustment will probably have to be made which could become a lot of work but still, 160 is probably what I would spend on materials.
send the flange of to china and get them to just make one. Limited risk.
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
I looked into this a while back, you'd be paying around $150-$200 per manifold. The problem I've heard with Chinese stainless manifolds is that they crack after a couple heat cycles-see if they iwll do mild steel with a heavy (0.1"+) wall.

My 5-cent on this is how ever crappy you ever build your exhaust manifold it's better than a Chinese dito. So just buy some bends and tube and get going. If you grind some and wrap it up you can MIG-weld it.
Don't forget to buy the flange (om604/605/606) from us over at F-tune Performance

(10-15-2014, 04:31 AM)hooblah I've heard of the crappy Chinese stainless turbo manifolds cracking. You can weld them up and add additional bracing but they still crack.
I'll be making my own in the future, whats the best way of forming an oval pipe for the 606 flange?
This is how you don't have to form an oval pipe for the flange
Otherwise you need to build with 48mm tubes to get the cone right. 44mm pipes can't stretch that much.

Did you see the guy who made a 60x manifold from rectangular tubing? It looked like a good way to make a log manifold on the cheap.
Word on the street is that you buy an eb*y turbo, and immediately send it to a rebuilder for seals/balancing and you're fine. Never done it myself, but that seems like the way to go for super big cheap turbos that aren't used.
