Adapter plate for 700R4
Adapter plate for 700R4
Anyone used one of those adapter plates for a 700R4? My trans is starting to slip and I like the idea of the lower 1st gear and the fact that you can get a built transmission for very cheap, so cheap that it makes the price of a adapter plate irrelevant. Its going in a W126
I think the 700R4 would be an excellent trans for the diesels. The only problem I see is the size, mainly of the bellhousing, which looks a bit larger than the Merc one. I asked the guy that makes the plate and he had never heard on one being installed in the original Mercedes car, they had all been used on transplants.
I'm sure it can be done the only question is how much effort will it take?
Evenglass, how do you like this trans mated to the 617? What rig did you mount it in?

Are you using vacuum modulated shifts?

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
The pattern is in the engine sticky, you'd just have to redrill a flex plate and double check your spacing. Starter provisions would be needed too.

Not to be the negative nancy here.. but if your going to go though all that $$ why not just use a 722.6. Proven lots of power handling and cheap to buy as well.
The chevy setups offer more transfer case options and are easier for LH front drivehsaft orientations. The merc transfer cases have RH front driveshafts, incompatible with many popular 4x4 applications. Other than that, the chevy transmissions don't have much if anything to offer over a 722.6- besides a bitchin B&M shifter option :-)

What would I use to control that transmission? I have a 2001 S500 I am parting out right now. Does that have the right transmission? I just figure 700r4's are $150' rebuilds about the same, and shift kits the same. If you could tell me how to control these transmissions I would go that route but the Trans uses a shift sequence so whatever controls it has to have a gear calculator built in.

The 722.6 is also known as a NAG1 in Chrysler products. It's found in Porsches and Jag's too if you want to search for upgrade info.
There is a standalone called "powertrain cotrol solutions (pcs)" controller. The only pricing info I've found is in the $900 range. Olefejer on this board makes one that makes the PCS box obsolete
http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thre...22-6-ver-2 I think he has since upgraded it with CAN capabilities for vnt control.
(11-06-2014, 08:38 AM)DuncansportSeems like switching the bell housing would be easier or am I missing something?(11-06-2014, 08:21 AM)TurboTim What would I use to control that transmission? There are a few options to use the .6 with standalone controller, a member makes a controller here on the form. And your 2001 s500 trans will only work if you change the bell housing. Or get a trans from a M111, M104 OM606 or early sprinter, there out there for under $300.
