om616 240 rebuild for turbo
om616 240 rebuild for turbo
I just striped down a 617 with a rod knock but was able to save 4 near perfect pistons and rods. and 4 good piston squirters! And I have a well running but tired om616 240d engine low oil pressure and some blow by
I have read about drilling and bolting in the piston coolers
but will the 617 turbo rods and pistons fit in the 616 240d engine
I know the 616 doesn't have a nitrated crank but I have never see one break! I would bet it would take 200hp 350ftlb before you had to even think about it + if you could it would be some bragging rights!!!
what else would you do when rebuilding the om616 to take a turbo??? Any ideas would be helpful
I wand to rebuild it to make some big power but cheep!

I think you are in uncharted, albeit awesome territory. You might want to think about the cam a bit, also possibly consider playing with lower compression ratios (17:1?), but I don't know enough about combustion chambers to know how this will affect this particular engine. Good luck!

A good machinist shouldn't have a problem cutting spaces to bolt on the squirters, especially if you give him the 617 block to take measurements from. Bore and stroke should be the same.
Oil flow may be a problem though. If you've got low pressure now its going to be really low with squirters. Maybe the machinist can make a higher drive ratio shaft and/or gear for the oil pump?

yea I am curious about the hardening on the crank if it is to make the crank stronger or just the bearing surface harder? I would think just freshening up the bottom end and a new oil pump should pick up some oil pressure currently it is 5psi at idle and 30 at redline
unless it an internal pressure leek? could the oil filter housing gasket be lousing pressure internally? just a thought
my plan so far is new liners rings bearing gaskets the turbo pistons rings oil coolers and button up the bottom end! and add some propane some more boost and fuel? possibly port the head and manifold a bit and play with the cam a little?
You should double cross cut the 5th piston so we can see how much material there is in the piston dome.
