Having trouble getting my om605 going
Hello all, im having abit of bother trying to get my om605 with a om602 pump going, pump has 7.5mm diesel meken elements and its all balanced properly. Today is the first day i tried to get it started, got fuel going to it, the fuel is getting to the engine aswell. Heater plugs are working aswell but it just wont fire. It is smoking when its being turned over but it doesnt sound like its trying to fire. Only thing i can come to is the timing on the pump is out, and although its getting fuel it isnt getting it at the right time. Anyone any ideas as to what else it could be?
Cheers Ricky
See if she will fire off some ether. That should at least let you know compression is good.
Who made the element swap?
it looks like u have a timing issue , just that, if the timing is correct it will fire even with bad compression!!!
if u see too much withe smoke , like fog coming out the exaust thats the thing.
regards.
My 606 did that for ages and it turned out when we took the inspection cover off the dieselmekken IP the rack was stuck in the closed position, free'd it with my hand and it fired right up! Had been standing for 6 months though...
hey thought i should finally update this, yeh i had the pump timing off, not far, was only about 15 degres, just enough for her to try and cough but not fire
reset the timing on it on saturday, i am a happy man right now, took abit of turning with no glow plugs, blow tourch over the intakes and it finally fired
thanks for all your help lads, ill know for next time to double check the timing, its currently set at 14 past tdc, this sound about right for a big pump? it sounded very knocky at that first time it went to fire
u´ll see . sometimes the timing is hard to tune. despide MB´s engines can fire from 0 atdc to 30º .
the timing should be checked against the light device, injection should ocurr at 16.5ºC. the best .
using wether the RIV method or the locking tool, does not guarantee the correct timing. if u can´t lay your hands on the light device, u got to do it by listening the engine. more less like this: u can advance as much as u hear the engine nailing , after u retract till the nailing noise disapear, engine at normal operating temp.
Like this u may find advance in the order off 10º c wich is not true , is just the locking device 2or 3 degree´s out of place.

we´ll threre´s nothing wrong with set timming by listening..... is that the stoboscopic light device is the best thing cause u can be sure of what measure is good, and it takes 5 min max to set it right, well if u know what nr to set.
listening and try is also a good solution, but if u want to replicate u can´t do it at first.
17.5 to 18ºc is the good nr.
