FOR SALE: BRAND NEW ENGINE BLOCKS OM617 ENGINE
FOR SALE: BRAND NEW ENGINE BLOCKS OM617 ENGINE
For Sale: BRAND NEW MB OM617 Turbo Engine Blocks, from MB. NOT refurbished, not rebuilt, but new with bearing caps, oil squirters, liners, still packed in MB factory packaging with some of the brown grease on the pictures. So, you don't have to worry about aftermarket junk parts going into your engine. All MB from MB factory.
$725.00 plus PayPal fees and shipping. They weigh around 167 pounds each so shipping should not be a killer. Can avoid PP fees by a US Postal money order. I am willing to drive up to 100 miles and meet off an exit from I-77, I-20, or I-95 if that helps.
MB lists these for slightly under $3,000, so selling them for around 25%.
Having just got back my engine from the machinist, it looks like new liners, machining, et cet., is in the ballpark of $700-ish except these are new and you don't have to worry about rebuilding a used block.
I have three of them for sale. First pay, first gets them. These are ready for your pistons and crank, et cet.

I wish ... lol
Getting another back procedure, so I need to sell off everything I will not need so that I can pay local shops to finish my MB project within the next year. So, all that upholstery work, et cet., which I have been planning to do will be done by the pro's shortly, and the "final paint job" by the pro's too.
I am still doing some stuff, or directing my son to do it who has taken up an interest lately with wrenching. Just sold my "last" five speed Getrag 717.400 (I still have one for my current car). I had 4 at one time, but all extras gone now. Still doing injectors until I can't so to speak.
I will be posting things shortly after folks who contacted me a while back either decide to buy or back out. Sucks getting old ... lol
I got a few PMs / emails about shipping.
I think this side of the Mississippi is doable for around $100 or maybe even less. Greyhound looks very unlikely, but not 100% sure yet. I thought they had a 100 pound limit, but that could be discretionary. Maybe, IDK yet.
The pallet and crating is pretty compact, but the item is sort of heavy. The U-bid shipping guys or regional companies that are shipping on the side have worked out well for me in the past, e.g., Fastnal, et cet. The only thing with the U-bid guys is they could be a real shipper or a guy who travels from point A to point B and makes $$ on the side.
Plus, because I can drive it 100 or so miles,I can reach virtually every shipping company / shipping dock in the SE which is a huge plus since I can reach out to the major shipping lanes, et cet.
Where do you find this stuff? Amazing find!
Being now a reformed part-time horder has its pro's and con's. Right now, having a real and final sell off of everything. I know I posted here and there "The Final Sell-Off", but those were just failed efforts at self-help rehab. Wife & doctor have proven to me that getting older, and kids going off to college et cet., are now time and event driven matters, respectively, which necessitate the following: Sell off that which I will never use, take those proceeds and finish my MB project which I have been screwing around with for about five years. So, interior with leather, new carpet, newly rebuilt engine from floor up, all my pie-in-the-sky R&D mods., et cet are getting really done since I am hiring folks now to do them versus me trying to do them. It must be working since I had four Getrag 717.400 five speed tranny kits and now down to one which goes into my car; all engine items will be going; all 25mm sway bars are gone, all various sets of rims are now gone but AMGs, and the list goes on.
Having recited a long and boring narrative, here's the crucial part: I am offering some really decent deals and some beyond comprehension deals for anyone who can find me the missing pieces to the AMG body kit. I need the L & R side skirts and rear apron (valance). I let these pass through my fingers over the last few years, and now they are a no-show. In the past, I always could "wait" and something would pop up, but now I am truly motivate to get the car project done.
Lastly, I will still be doing injectors, OFV springs and OFV valves, SLS system components rebuilds.
Thanks for reading.
Update:
One sold ! THANK YOU !
One is "pending" -- so maybe, and assuming that comes through,
That just leaves one left. I am thinking this is probably the last chance to buy one of these without spending $3K plus shipping if your dealer does not have one in stock. As for shipping, I am open to investigating all avenues whereas if you go through the dealer and you end up paying shipping, you are at their mercy as to how they decide to ship it.
Update:
2nd one sold.
Down to the last one.
Right now, the shipping options have turned out to be win-win for folks.
One is being driven 2 hours and buyer is driving 2 hours ...
The other one is being shipped at either $150 to $200 from SC to TX. Getting quotes. I know my targeted price, but at least I have a quote in hand at $200.
Once the 3rd one sells, I am thinking that will be the end of these for a while until another few pop up.
On a side note, I am installing probably one of the last NOS cylinder heads from Germany on my rebuilt turbo engine.

Yes, I have been blessed with car deals and especially this one. I do miss my Packards, however. The best looking cars ever IMO.

First transaction completed, and delivered. Drove around 140 miles, EZ Peezy. Buyer drove around the same distance, all highway. Got to enjoy the Clemson Football caravans zooming past me headed W on I-26 towards NC/KY/TN and on the way home, got to enjoy the USC caravans zooming past me headed E on I-26 towards Columbia. Overall, a nice easy morning.
As for shipping, found a pretty decent rep for a trucking company. Here are some quotes I got which should outline the costs.
SC Zip 29229 to Houston area: $168 -- 1,000 miles or 5.9 cents a mile
SC Zip 29229 to Los Angeles, CA $230 -- 2400 miles or a little over 10 cents a mile
Assume delivery is to a non-residential setting.
Wow that is awesome...great for somebody's turbo build or just a million mile replacement lol
Yup, ... They are good alternative over a metric motor $10K rebuild. What is surprising is the shipping costs. From East Coast to West Coast is at or under $250. For the STD crowd, I am dropping the price to $700 (+pp fees or MO to avoid them) plus shipping. The one person sent me 1/2 down then totaled his car so I refunded him all of his money. I feel bad for him since his car looked really nice ... now it has some crumple zones.
Now, back at 2 for sale.
Last one sold !
Thanks everyone.
No more for sale ... unless I decide to punt and get rid of the one which I am keeping. However, all other's have sold.
