Mercedes Factory Replacement Transmission Ratios
Mercedes Factory Replacement Transmission Ratios
Well, the plot thickens on this supposed 717.411 I recently purchased. The transmission has an R-DOT sticker (with the Mercedes emblem taking the space between the R and DOT), indicating that this is a factory replacement transmission. The seller stated that the transmission part number had been "ground off", but the tool marks left from the end mill indicate the number (except for the "124") was machined off, which is further consistent with the transmission being a factory replacement.
However, here's where things get weird; gear ratios (based on references online):
R - 4.25
1 - 3.91 (.411 ratio)
2 - 2.18 (.430/.435 ratio)
3 - 1.38 (.430/.435 ratio)
4 - 1
5 - 0.78 (.411 ratio)
I know little about the compatibility of parts between these different gear boxes...anybody have insight into what's going on here? Is it as simple as this box being built with a mix of .411 and .430/435 gears?
